A Arte de Malabarisimo - Mixed by Swiff LaRoc

This is a high quality mix that I highly recommend. Below is Swiff LaRoc's explanation of the mix.

Well anyways here's my latest mix entitled "A arte de malabarisimo" which is portugese for "The art of juggling". Basically this is me trying to put a lot of different sounds and genres together. Even though it's mostly hip hop based, I tried to take it back to the bambaataa's time where they would throw some different records into their sets while still keeping it funky. Oh yeah, there's also a large amount of blends (mashups) and classic material on this as well.

Cold Cutz Remixes Volume 2 - Mixed by DJ JS-1

Explanation of the mix below.

In the mid 90's myself and Dj Spinbad did the "Cold Cutz Remixes (If I Ruled The Radio)" mixtape. We made that mixtape on broken 4-track-cassette recorders. We remixed tons of acapellas, and every song on the mixtape was an exclusive blend we did using turntables only. We re-scratched the song hooks, added sound fx, did some scratch interludes and really set the bar high for mixtape production. To date, that mixtape has reached tens of thousands of people and is considered one of the best mixtapes of all-time. This new mix was not supposed to be the specific part 2 to that mix, but it's done in a similar way and it is the "unofficial" part 2. There is ONLY acapella remixes on this new mix as well. I tried to use acapellas that we didn't use on the first one and also tried to squeeze in some rare ones too. There are some really great acapellas on here like The Symphony (Masta Ace verse), Peter Piper by Run Dmc, Full Clip by Gangstarr, Set It Off by Big Daddy Kane, Eric B is President by Eric B & Rakim, Mama Said Knock You Out by LL Cool J, The Bitch in Yoo by Common, n more... A mix like this is completely opposite of many lazy djays' mixes that let songs play all the way and then talk or play sound fx in between every track. This involves soo much more, and is soo much more fun to make. I used hundreds of different beats and acapellas.

Today most music has become free online and the mixtape game is not what it once was. It's easy to find thousands of mixtapes for free download, i know i posted all of mine for free download at: (www.DJJS1.BLOGSPOT.com)
Sooo, with everything being free, in order to make it worthwhile for someone to possibly purchase a CD, I have continued to make mixes that i noticeable put lots of work into. All i really ask is that people spread the word and get these mixes out there. Please re-post this, email it to your friends, re-tweet this, etc... (There is the buttons to re-post on facebook and twiiter below this post) Lets keep the pressure on all those horrible djays out there and try to keep some respect, honor, dignity and skills to the mixtape legacy.

Special Thanks to my friends and co-djays who gave me a few treats for this mix cd.... Dj Premier, JBX & Big City Records, Dj Eclipse & Fatbeats, Dj Riz,
Mix Greens, Dj Young C, and Dj Ody Roc... they all contributed acapellas to this mix....

World Famous Beat Junkies Vol. 2 - Mixed by DJ Rhettmatic

Original post below.

When I first heard this mix back in 1999 I told myself that "this is how I want my mixtapes to sound." It gets no better than this (at least not back in 99), classic underground hip hop joints from 1999 (right before "underground" became all nerdy) mixed by one of the masters of the mixtape.

Last Day of Fat Beat Farewell

This is some priceless video right here. Watch DJ Revolution, J. Rocc, Truly Odd, C-Minus, and Mr. Choc spin classic independent 12"'s (on actual vinyl) from the late 90's/early 2000's.

Re-Cycled - Mixed by DJ JS-1 & DJ Skizz

This is some serious mixin' right here. DJ JS-1's explanation of the mix below.

Dj Skizz of The Halftime Radio Show, and myself, DJ JS-1, got together to do another classic mix... (if you didnt already download "REPROGRAM" our first mixtape, check the older posts n download it!) So this time around we decided to do a full mix using ONLY remixes. Many of these remixes are rare, uncommon, or not played out. We tried to narrow it down to remixes we personally liked because there is soo many. Most of these tracks are from the 90's era. We did miss a few, but there's always vol 2. Sooo, while many other djays are lazy with wack music knowledge, i do everything i can to keep bringing you good music, classic tracks, some rare hiphop, and never jumping ship to play cornball commercial nonsense. I hope you enjoy and appreciate our mixes... please repost, re-blast, retweet, and tell a friend... thank you. DJ JS-1... Rock Steady Crew...

Babu Making Alarm Clock

The beatmaking part of this video is cool, but I found this video especially interesting because you can see Babu's home studio setup and home.

DJ Rhettmatic on the Closing of Fat Beats

I know he is mostly preaching to the choir here, but I still think the message deserves a post.

DJ Melo-D Live on MikiDz Show

Melo-D is a f*cking BEAST! Oh how I miss hearing his mixes on the radio. There are two mixes here. The first mix is an electro mix and the second mix is a hip hop and breaks mix (followed by a Q&A). Melo-D gets on the mix at approximately the 41 min. mark. If you really want to see Melo-D at his finest, fast forward to the 1 hour and 30 minute mark.

Lost & Found Vol. 1 - Mixed by DJ Superix

I remember that this mix received rave reviews when it was originally posted. Original post below.

Another excellent mix from DJ Superix featuring an array of quality early 90's cuts. Before you roll your eyes about another early 90's mix, let me tell you that this isn't your ordinary 90's mix.

DJ Mane One Mixing Live in His Kitchen

Mane One channels his inner Grandmaster Flash on this one. If this doesn't inspire you then I don't know what will.

Break Builders Vol. 2 - Mixed by DJ Zeph & DJ Platurn

"All vinyl but heavily Pro-Tooled featuring additional turntable artistry from none other than DJ Teeko. This mix took Zeph & I a year to make and when it dropped, set a standard for how deep and detailed a mix comprised solely of breaks could actually go."

Live at the Boys & Girls Club (1987) - Mixed by Joe Cooley

WOW! The gems you'll find on the net are out of control. This is a real piece of history right here. Props to Hamza from DomeShots for putting me onto this mix. Below is Hamza's explanation of the mix.

Here's one those rare thing that hit the net ever so often. Back in 1987 "The King Of Scratch" Joe Cooley performed a set at my local Boys & Girls club here in San Bernardino,CA.
Honestly I don't remember this night. I lived a few blocks from the B&G club and Joe Cooley & Rodney O came through San Bernardino pretty frequently during the late 80's. Also I was involved within the Party crew scene back then so I might have missed this event due to spinning at party. I do remember a big controversy in news about a gang fight breaking out at Boys & Girls dance back then. I'm unsure, however, if this the event or later one.

"This is a personal recording that Joe let me do while he performed. The mix ends abruptly due to a Gang fight that broke out that night, and the show ended"
Tricksta
This is pure raw 1980's style mixing. It may be too raw for younger listeners who are used to radio mixshows.

DJ Scratch Live at the Do-Over (8/15/10)

This is far and away one of the more creative live sets I've heard in a minute. The track selection isn't all that unique, but it is very fresh in a charmingly simple way.
