Prior to their appearance at the New Museum, Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito did a "one-time" only pop up show on their original time slot,day and station 89.9 WKCR FM NYC. Do not try this at home without proper Hip-Hop supervision. A taste of the Cadberry goes out to Madam Superior.

Highly recommended hour-and-a-half interview/lecture that dives into the greatest hip hop radio show of all time. Even for you long-time fans, you'll get every detail from the nervous early days when, as Stretch puts it, “at least 15 people were listening,” the classic freestyles (Big L with Jay-Z; Nas) and world premiere appearances (Wu-Tang; B.I.G.), the 4AM “Krunchtime” snap sessions – even the time a desperate listener called in seeking legal counsel from Bob after allegedly bucking someone down. Also discussed: why the show eventually ran its course (and episodes of playing records the other person wouldn’t like to piss him off), moving on from hip-hop, and how this particular broadcast with all its quirks and mystique will forever represent a classic New York City sensibility.

This is a must listen. Seems like San Fran is hogging all the dope shows these days. NYC rap radio legends Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Garcia invaded SF last Thursday as part of Red Bull Music Academy‘s stupendous “NYC to SF Bay” program of events. After chopping it up with Egotrip's Chairman Mao in an afternoon lecture dedicated to the history of the duo’s exalted ’90s hip-hop broadcast, the mighty Stretch n’ Bob (and Shortkut of the Skratch Piklz) treated Mighty SF with a night of soul, funk, breaks, and classic hip-hop as only these spin doctors can put it down. 4-part embedded stream after the jump.

I found this post of an old Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito show (circa 1994) from the WKCR 89.9 FM days on DJ Soul's blog. Being a Socal head I never had the opportunity to listen live to Stretch and Bobbito's classic show. Fortunately, one of my best friends (who is from nyc) has shared his archived tapes of old shows with me so I could hear the magic for myself. Be sure to peep the below video which gives you a nice background to the show before you listen to the mix.
