THINK B.I.G. - Mixed by DJ Soul
If you've enjoyed this blog over the years, DJ Soul is the man you have to thank. It was his blog that gave me the idea back in 07/08. Here is his Biggie mix that he did for Abstract Radio a few years ago. The mix is an excellent assortment of B-Side and lesser known/played Biggie tracks.
Assorted Donuts Vol. 2 (Rough Sketch) - Mixed by DJ Soul
Of all Dilla tributes (and there are many good ones); DJ Soul's Assorted Donuts is in my top three. Depending on the day, it's my favorite. Unfortunately, this is not second volume of that mix. Instead, it's quick sketch of some mixes Soul is working on (presumably with a second volume in mind). Though only four minutes, it's enough to get your mouth watering for a full mix. Let's hope Soul brings it to the world.
This is not official as it's just a few remixes I put together years ago as an idea for a sequel to Assorted Donuts.
Casino - Mixed by Just Blaze & DJ Soul
Top shelf mix of all sorts of random, classic joints that you probably haven't heard nor played in a while. Not sure why the mix is titled "Casino," but that really doesn't matter. Enjoy.

The Prescription 2.1 - Mixed by DJ Soul
Most are awaiting Jay Electronica's debut album and Dr. Dre's Detox to be released, but I've been patiently awaiting Soul's third installment of No Ideas Original. Though Soul continues to say he's working on volume 3, this late 90's mix will do nicely while we wait.
This mix was originally released in 1999 as volume #1 of The Prescription mixtape series presented by Staple Design.
Last year, it was re-recorded and released on a USB flash drive that came with the purchase of a T-shirt collaboration between DJ Soul & Jeff Staple. The DJ Soul logo on the flash drive was designed by New York graf legend Haze.
The T-shirt & flash drive package which was available at Reed Space in New York City, Colette in Paris, Shoe Gallery in Miami, Kicks Hawaii in Honolulu, Major in Washington DC is now sold out. Thank you to everybody who supported the project.

Live on Frozen Files (2/1/12) - Mixed by DJ Soul
This is an absolutely incredible mix. Without a doubt, one of the best executed live, break mixes I've had the pleasure of hearing. I've always had much respect for Soul, but my respect for Soul's skills on the tables has increased immeasurably after hearing this gem of a mix. Highly Recommended

Time Travelin - Mixed by DJ Soul
Am I setting myself up for disappointment by being excited for the upcoming Common album release? Fingers crossed for an instrumental release of No ID beats.
A few years ago, Okayplayer asked me to do a Common mix which fans would receive (as a bonus cd) if they purchased Finding Forever on their site. With the buzz starting to build for Common's upcoming album The Dreamer, The Believer, I think now is the perfect time to release this to the masses. Enjoy!

R&B Classics 97 - Mixed by DJ Soul
Ahh, the sweet sounds of breaks mixed live, cassette tape air, and the skills of DJ Soul. I think this is the famous mix that Puffy heard before he commissioned Soul to do another similar type mix for him.

Lafayette 8 Year Anniversary - Mixed by DJ Soul
Wow! I didn't realize that there was this much new quality hip hop out right now. Props to Soul for a very tasteful selection. Tracklist after the jump.
No Ideas Original 2 - Mixed by DJ Soul
Update: I find it highly disturbing that this mix doesn't have 20 comments all discussing how wonderful of a mix it is. For the record, I have absolute no connection to DJ Soul other than being a fan.

Big L Tribute - Mixed by DJ Soul
Damn me, I almost forgot to post a Big L mix today. This mix was posted last year, but is definitely worth another listen.
Live Frozen Files Mix - Mixed by DJ Soul
Here is an excellent live radio mix brought to you by DJ Soul. Below is Soul's description of the mix.Back in the late 90's when I used to harass record labels for music, one label that I would check on the regular was Loud Records. Damn near everything they released back then was certified classic. Debut albums from the Wu Tang, Mobb Deep, Raekwon, The Alkoholiks, Xzibit, Sadat X and Big Pun moved major units without radio friendly singles and helped pave the way for indie labels such as Rawkus and Penalty.
The first time I visited Loud, their office was on Lexington and 32nd Street (Vibe Magazine was also in that building) and it was a few weeks before the release of Mobb Deep's second album. I didn't know anybody who worked there but had heard that promo records were given out every Friday to club and mixtape DJ's. That week, I made it a point to go and wait in that lobby until somebody either hooked me up or kicked me out. I don't remember who laced me but I got an advance copy of Mobb Deep's Hell On Earth and Xzibit's At The Speed Of Light.
A week or two later, I made a mixtape titled The Set Up and went back to the office and gave out copies to some of the staff. Slowly, I became cool with Malachi & Jabbar in the A&R department and damn near everybody in promotions (Shouts to OJ Wedlaw, Budda, Gabby, Chris Green, Howie McDuffy and Puerto Rico Rob). Soon I met Sean C (who was working with a new group by the name of Dead Prez) and shortly after that, I met the two A&R's who were responsible for signing Mobb Deep and Raekwon. Their names was Schott Free and Matt Life. Matt had also worked at The Source Magazine where he was responsible for The Unsigned Hype column and was the one who introduced Puff Daddy to an up and coming rapper out of Bed-Stuy by the name of Biggie Smallz.
Up until the demise of Loud Records in 2002, these guys looked out for me whenever they could. So when Schott called me up last week and asked me to come up to his and Matt's new show on East Village Radio as a guest DJ, you know I had to repay the favor. Hopefully this will turn into something we do a few times a year.

Assorted Donuts - Mixed by DJ Soul
One week from today will mark the 3rd anniversary of J. Dilla's passing. I thought this would be an appropriate time to blow the dust off some of my favorite Dilla mixes. Assorted Donuts along with J. Rocc's Act III are my favorite Dilla mixes. DJ Soul mixes together an assortment of instrumentals from the Donuts album with the acapellas from MC's like Biggie, Kweli, Big L etc... Watch the below video for a taste if you've never heard the mix before. If you have heard the mix before, listen to it again because the concept was so f*cking brilliant that it pisses me off that I didn't think of it first. Props to DJ Soul.Assorted Donuts - Mixed by DJ Soul (zshare download)
