Video: Alchemist and Evidence Record Shopping at Amoeba Records

I am constantly searching for inspiration. A video like this is like spinach for the hip hop soul. This video consists of Evidence and Alchemist digging through the crates of Amoeba Records in Hollywood, CA. Ev and Al discuss the records (and cd's) in their bag, sources of inspiration, and current day albums/producers that they dig. Personally, I always enjoy seeing what inspires those that inspire me.

i'm sorry, but no reggae records? amoeba has ridiculous amounts of dope reggae.

but i see how ev just loots the crappy records for samples. that's not a bad way to do it.

amoeba is not top on my list of LA record stores but they do have a huge selection

but check this mix from one of the staff members at amoeba - dj jun

I get inspired by the staff at these record stores cause they get to check the music out without buying it. when you find a true record collector then you find your best records.

but there is one good song on every album, well at least on the ones I own

Not that it was better than Amoeba, but I do miss Aaron's Records. It was always nice having that option. However, I'm not sure Omega will divulge his favorite record stores.

Personally, I'm a fan of Amoeba. However, I'd be an even bigger fan if you could listen to your records before you purchased them and didn't have to go to war with the packaging to open a new record lol

i know there's a spot in Hollywood that's more of a "service" than a store, but as far as actual "record stores"... nothing else is even close (esp. all around). Even Fat Beats is only 2nd in the hip hop dept, because of all the used stock at Amoeba. Also, these days CDs are just as relevant as vinyl. and amoeba got it well covered on cds. plus, you can buy CDs and then take em right back for credit.

All due respect to Omega... but he's fronting. :-)

amoeba is a go green store but everything in it is all about paper, plastic, and tape. I am with pipo because I can't open a record without cutting through at least 2 layers of tape. But if you want some commercial flavor go to amoeba. If you want classic records for the right price hit record surplus. If you want to raid a used bin that's not tainted try poobah in Pasadena. Like I said amoeba has a great selection but you can't listen to a single record and store credit is wack! Long live the record stores with listening stations!
