Wow, just saw this making its rounds on the net. I pass on a Prince Paul beat like I pass on a blunt. Here is what Prince Paul has to say about the album.
This was a project that I wanted to put together with Amityville MC legend Superstar . as I thought about it more I wanted to recruit more Mcs we knew to make it diverse . Superstar already had the name “Horror City” so we recorded under that name . This project was recorded right after the first Gravedigga album ” 6ft deep”in 1995 . I shopped the demo but unfortunately it got looked over and never got signed . I sat on this project for a while but it always had a dear place in my heart because I thought it was really good and the talent was there . I stripped some of the music from the demo and put it on ” a prince among thieves” and actually had a few of the guys perform on the ” Thieves ” album as well but to be honest I always liked these originals better. So now I have decided share these songs with all of you because holding on to them made no sense .. why not share great music . Hopefully you the listener will enjoy this project as much as I do . please share it , thats why I made this for free download . For more group info please log on to http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000981527022 for a proper bio of “Horror City “. – prince paul

I'm pretty sure this is the same mix that originally aired on Beat Junkie Radio last year after MJ died. I haven't listened to the mix yet, but I don't think I need to preview a J. Rocc mix for quality. On second thought, I may have posted this mix already, or I may have not. I'm really not sure. In any event, listening to a mix twice never hurt anybody. Here is the audio for those of you who don't have it already.

I apologize for not having enough time to consolidate both sides into one large file, but this is an excellent mix worthy of all of your ears. I feel more Hip Hop just for listening to this mix. Honestly, my "hiphop'ness" went up at least 3 levels for listening to this right here.

June 16th, 1971... Somewhere along the way it became "uncool" to listen to 2pac among hip hop elites. I'm not sure why, but the vanguards of rap music have never given 2pac the same critical love as other deceased rappers such as Biggie, Big L, or even Big Pun. Not that he doesn't get love (I believe he is the highest selling rap artist of all time), it just seems that the same heads who worship Biggie, Tribe, De la, and Rakim, don't have an appreciation for the musical contribution of 2pac. With that in mind, I designed this mix to make believers out of all those who are lukewarm toward 2pac. This is a 2pac mix for the snobbiest of hip hop elites. This is not a mix that will feature songs like California Love or All About U. Rather, this mix primarily consists of selections that showcase the section of 2pac's catalogue that should satisfy the finickiest of music critics. He may not have been the greatest lyricist of all time, but you can't deny that dude had a lot to say. As with all of my mixes, a lot of time and effort was put into crafting this mix. I hope you all enjoy it.
Excellent mix! Dstrukt's explanation of the mix and tracklist below.
20 minutes of default hip hop joints. Don’t hate, you’ll understand when I tell you the story behind this mix. Tech hit me up and asked me to do a 90’s mix for the show, I obviously said yes, next thing you know, my computer breaks within the next two days. Basically I was shit out of luck, but then I remembered I had a mix that never really got exposed from 2005. Yes, I said 2005! Way before I had Serato. So I took the first three minutes from that mix to be an intro to this 90’s tribute. Everything after the three minute mark is from 2009. So in a nutshell, you get a little piece of 2005 Dstrukt and 2009 Dstrukt. Sorry if that story wasn’t interesting enough for you. Peace.

I'm headed to NYC for Thanksgiving to visit my brother and his family. Nothing is more chicken soup for the Hip Hop soul like a few days in NYC. This mix just screams New York! Mr. New York sound himself DJ Premier brings you a "must listen" promo mix that serves as a grimy soundtrack to the sound of underground New York rap, circa 1995.

As popular as the blog has become, this is not the way I pay my bills. I pay my bills by working as a college professor. Today I received a phone call from one of my former students. During the course of our conversation the student mentioned that he was at a friend's home studio recording his raps. I asked what kind of production tools his friend uses. Specifically, I asked whether his friend uses some software based program, or actual hardware. Not that it mattered, I only asked because I was curious. He told me that his friend uses a MPC-60 and records. I then asked how his friend got his hands on a MP-60. He said that his grandfather gave it to him as a gift. I concluded my line of questioning by asking whether he knew which producer is famous for using the MP-60. Both of them instantaneously responded with DJ PREMIER. At that moment I thought to myself, hip hop is very much alive and well.
Very enjoyable radio mix by DJ Raichous. The mix blends together an assortment of hiphop, soulful breaks, some funk, jazz, and all sorts of music that you all will like if you enjoy this blog.
