Kool Herc Tribute Mix - Mixed by DJ Child

I really don't know what to think with this whole Kool Herc situation. I do find it very sad that a man responsible for a multi-billion dollar industry does not have access to adequate health insurance. On the other hand, I've read a few blog posts (read here) that having me feeling some regrets for donating some serious coin to his healthcare fund. Thoughts? If not, enjoy the mix.

bol is a straight asshole!! That's his hustle. His writes posts to stir people up. Nobody should take him seriously . He's nothing but a culture vulture. So what if Herc gets a little more money then his actual needs for the surgery. Herc ain't rich though he should be. Herc is very well known by many heads in NYC if he was some small time scammer like Bol portrays people would know. The fact that Primo and other older heads who have known Herc for years are helping him out is proof enough Herc is legit.

Big up 2 herc & his contributions 2 the game. BUT why didn't he get a job(w/benefits) like the rest of us? We all know hip hop aint got 401k. U know he was getting decent bread when he was at his peak dj'ing all over NY (and probably Japan & Europe). Shit i used to charge $150-200 a night when i did house parties.

Like many in late 70's and 80's Herc fell into drug addiction. By the time the 80's came Herc was pretty much a full blown drug addict. Same thing will Grandmaster Flash & Cowboy and many other pioneers of Hip Hop. Herc makes more money deejaying today than he did during the 70's.

As well as the list of people in Hip Hop who have college degrees and who have some kind decent high paying job is rare. Most just get by with working class employment. The fact that many older heads fell into drug addiction and didn't pursue higher education isn't excuse to look down on their contribution to world. These people changed the world and yet those who benefit off their work are always trying to find any excuse to not them pay back for all their have done. Respect is good but respect don't pay bills.

Everybody is gonna make their personal choice on whether to contribute. If people want to share information about Herc that might prevent some people from contributing... we should respect each other's desire to make informed decisions.

I would like to point out that there are millions of uninsured people out there. If you are passionate about helping people in need, then learn about single-payer health care, spread the word, and vote for politicians who support it. I hate to say it, but these medical campaigns mostly remind of the people who don't have a legion of fans willing to donate money toward medical bills.
