Crate Diggers: DJ Scratch

DJ Scratch: "When was the last time the crowd looked at you?"
Grandmaster Flash: "I can't really recall."
DJ Scratch: "You want to know why?"
Granmaster Flash: "Why?"
DJ Scratch: "Because they can't see you over the computer. Serato and Traktor and all that, it's not special anymore. Everybody has it. Not everybody has vinyl."

That quote caused me to recall that one of the novelties of deejaying back when I started (late 90's) was vinyl. People didn't necessarily care about how skillfull I was (or wasn't in my case), they mostly cared that I actually owned vinyl in an era dominated by CDs. To them, that's what made the hip hop deejay "cool." Totally forgot about all that. Crazy

I love that story about Flash! And although I dont want to get into a debate about vinyl vs. serato (no more, please!!!), there is definitely something extra special about seeing your favorite DJs playing with actual records. I can't really explain it, but I feel it.
