2x4 Dilla Megamix (Live at Boombox) - Mixed by Mr. Choc & C-Minus
Absolutely incredible! Recorded live at LA's famous Boombox club. Highly Recommended.
Dilla Month Closeout
Here are two more Dilla mixes for your listening pleasure to closeout Dilla Month. The SEANO mix is more of a Dilla breaks mix, while the Chorizofunk mix does a nice job of covering lesser played and known Dilla joints.
Rakim Tribute Megamix - Mixed by DJ Revolution
No MC is more deserving of a megamix of this caliber. I'm not sure I've heard a better megamix tribute. Highly Recommended.
Strata East Mix Part 2 - Giles Peterson
I don't think any of you will be pressed for good music playing this today.
Ahead of the Strata East Live show at The Barbican on March 22, Gilles has put together a mammoth 3 hour mix, playing nothing but the finest music released on the legendary 1970s label, Strata East. Part 1 dropped earlier this month (Gillespeterson – Strata-east-mix-part-1), and here's part 2!
Still to come, the in-depth Gilles Peterson x Charles Tolliver interview. For more information on the event, check www.barbican.org.uk/music/event-det…il.asp?

Quick Thought on John Legend and Common's Oscar
There are few things that annoy me more than a celebrity not named Chuck D commenting on issues of political/social significance. Let me also say that Common's music/career direction over the last 8-10 years has been a little disappointing and annoying to me (though not surprising). I'll even go further to out my cynical, cranky ass by saying that I'm less than enthusiastic about John Legend (along with Will.I.am) being the unofficial song writers to all corny, socially conscious pop songs. With that said, I think both Common and John Legend represented themselves quite well last night with their Oscar winning acceptance speech. Their point was made in a well prepared, concise, and sincere way. Though I may be incredibly bias as a life long hip hopper, I think Hollywood was taken to school last night on how to use a global platform to express social commentary in a fashion that is least likely to result in a valuable message being dismissed due to a poor messenger.
Dah Shinin Originals - Mixed by DJ Big Texas
Excellent mix done in the style of DJ Moneyshot, DJ Food and DJ Cheeba's Illmatic/Paul's Boutique/It Takes a Nation break down mixes.
Dilla Day at the Regent
2.13.2015 - Los Angeles, CA - Tracks Performed: "Move" by Oh No & Roc C; "Baby" by Guilty Simpson; "Passin Me By" by Fatlip of the Pharcyde; "Runnin" by Fatlip of the Pharcyde - DJ sets by J Rocc & Rhettmatic - Video montage by ManFromNor
Pullin from the Stacks Podcast: Episode 12 - DJ Ian Head
Some warm and soulful love songs for the coldest month of the year.
Half Man, Half Amazing - Mixed by DJ Jamad
The mix is exactly what the cover suggests, Stevie Wonder mixed with Nas. In some cases, Nas joints are seamlessly mixed into Stevie Wonder cuts. In other cases, DJ Jamad blends Nas vocals over Stevie instrumentals. Excellent concept and superb execution. Enjoy.
AbcntheMnded Mix Recorded AUG 2011
I'm unaware of a title for this excellent mix. Like me, some of you may not agree will all the songs selected for the mix. But, isn't that what makes a mix great (a deejay's willingness to play songs from left)? I played this mix on loop all weekend. All sorts of random joints seamlessly blended together. It would be an immediate candidate for mix of the year if not for the fact it's from 2011.
Vinyl Porn Alert: Breakbeat Lou Shares Record Collection with Rich Medina/Boiler Room
Breakbeat Lou - Boiler Room Collections by brtvofficial
UBB heads will eat this up like bears on honey. Watch Breakbeat Lou explain the philosophy behind each volume of UBB and the reason why selected songs were (and were not) included in the UBB series. Must see.
The Official Adventures Of James Dewitt Yancey Aka J Dilla (Mega Mix) - Mixed by Mell Starr
I'm doing my best to filter all the Dilla stuff so not to post things that aren't bringing something new to the Dilla tribute table. This mix is incredibly impressive, perhaps a top 3 Dilla mix IMO. I'm 1 and 1/2 hours into the mix and still can't believe Mell Starr is keeping up this pace. This mix has blends, scratches, A LOT of doubles being rocked; all the things that followers of this blog consider essential to a quality mix. I'm not sure I've heard Dilla cut-up as much and as well as what I'm hearing right now as I listen to this mix. Highly Recommended.
Get Live With It (The J - Dilla 2x4 Tribute Mix) - J. Rocc & Rhettmatic
Tuesdays are pretty busy for me, so I was out of touch with the net. I'm sure you all have already heard the mix, but this blog wouldn't be this blog if this mix doesn't get posted regardless. Video snippets of the mix after the jump.
A Journey Through Sampleland Part 3 - Mixed by Ruck N' Wiz
The third installment of the excellent sample-based mix series. Highly Recommended.

Sight Of Sound...a J Dilla Video Mix by Digumsmak
Sight Of Sound...a J Dilla Video Mix by Digumsmak from jeremy garcia on Vimeo.
Some of the more creative minds have gone to the video tribute this year to celebrate the legacy of J. Dilla. There was the incredibly impressive Donuts album video that has now been taken down from the web (please don't tell me Stonethrow is behind that), and now there's this HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Dilla video mix by blog favorite, Digumsmak.

Dilla PSA
I'm on record as saying that the Dilla fandom of the last 9 years is a very positive thing on the whole (though annoying at times). I say that because I don't want to come off as a Dilla elitist who implies you're one big poser if you haven't been down since 95 (or 94, 93...). With that said, do yourself a favor and listen to SV's Fan-Tas-Tic Vol.1(free of charge of you have Amazon Prime). In fact, listen to it several times over and over again. The album (more so a demo from what I understand) is so raw, yet very refined (especially considering it was originally designed as a demo) at the same time. It's an incomplete work of art all the while not needing a thing to make it complete. Some of you may know the album well. Some of you may have heard it years ago and simply filed it away. Perhaps a few of you (though you'll likely never admit it) have never given the album a good listen because it didn't become widely available until long after Volume 2 had taken the underground world by storm. Whoever you are, listen to the album from beginning to end and enjoy.
DJ Jeyone Red Bull Thre3style Routine
Some of you may recall Jeyone's very impressive UBB routine from a little while back. Here is another very impressive performance/routine/set by new blog favorite, DJ Jeyone.
here it is. 1 take. i went over by like a min and there's a few mistakes in this run thru.. but hey.... fuck it. it was awesome to get a shot and it's all love. thanks to everyone who supported! love you all!
Break and Sample Mix Video - DJ Babu
Highly Recommended.
Juliano, groove merchant and owner of renowned vinyl shop Recordkingz.com lets DJ Babu of Beat Junkies go to work on the 1's and 2' using rare vinyl from the store's crates. Prepare for sinister loops, funky grooves and dusty break beats presented in Hip Hop fashion as a skillful turntable technician cuts it up for you on a 15 minute mix to introduce some of the gems you can purchase at Record Kingz.
Caribou 7" Mix on Giles Peterson World Wide
Not a whole lot of mixing here, but the cuts are premium select. I suggest listening to the Caribou interview as well.
Shutter Mixtape (2015) - Mixed by DJ P
All vinyl mix of newer hip hop joints.
Here is a short smooth mix to begin the year 2015, a collaboration with the Brand "Shutter", recorded from vinyls I've bought in 2013/2014, no serato in here.
