A Hip Hop Snob's Guide to the Best Music of 2018
For about 10 years (roughly 2006-2016) beatmakers were galaxies ahead of MCs as far as being able to produce quality, innovative material that demonstrated artistic maturity. It appears MCs are finally beginning to close that gab. Some of that is thanks to new talented MCs appearing on the scene (Griselda, Mach Hommy, the continued genius of Roc Marciano, to name a few); while the rest of the credit can be given to known quantities who seem to have figured out how to do what seemed to be elusive within Hip Hop; staying current as an "older" MC without acting like you're in your 20's.
As a music lover, I feel absolutely spoiled by 2018. Below are a variety of categories that capture albums released in 2018 that I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you familiarize yourself with (if you're not already familiar).

2018 Mixtape Awards
That time of year has arrived again. A REMINDER TO ALL THOSE INCLUDED AND NOT INCLUDED ON THE LIST: Some of you make a living off this whole DJ thing of ours; some of you are trying to make a living off this; while others are content to just be bedroom enthusiasts. Whoever you are, you are extraordinarily talented if your mix has been posted on this blog (regardless if it made the list). I am a music snob. I take music, hip hop culture, and the artform of deejaying very seriously. I don't post bullshit (for the most part), and I don't give out compliments loosely. If I've said your mix is dope, it's because I think your mix is dope. And if I think your mix is dope, it's because it is. This blog only survives if all of you keep mixing. The blog dies when your mixes dry up, so keep mixing motherf%ckers! We are all getting older, gaining responsibilities, and losing free-time with each day. I get it. Believe me, I do. However, keep creating. Even if it's only for a few minutes a day, keep creating. Keep diggin'; keep searching for inspiration; keep working at your craft. Lastly, thank you to all of you who continue to inspire me and give me new ideas on where to take my craft.
