Beats, Rhymes, (& the love of my) Life - Pipomixes
Last summer I revisited ATCQ’s critically panned (mostly) Dilla produced albums (“Beats, Rhymes…”& “Love Movement”) . Yes, Tribe still sounded like a group on the verge of breaking-up, but damn did those beats sound good almost 30 years later. As is the essence of hip hop and deejaying, I thought to take the beats from “Beats, Rhymes…” and “Love Movement” and repurpose them (with the help of some other Dilla joints) into something funkier.
These old Tribe beats were always gems. They just needed a little repurposing to get the proper light to shine. Probably not too different from so many of you. Like a dope beat, sometimes we all just need a little repurposing to realize our full dopeness.
While this mix was made for one set of ears (Mrs. Mixes), I’m sharing it with all of you hoping it hits in some kinda way.
This mix brings everything you’d expect from one of my mixes: layered tracks, seamless blends, and that stoned-out funk. Mrs. Mixes wouldn’t have it any other way. You’ve got to groove to that stoned-out funk to be Mrs. Mixes.
Peace to everybody who still appreciates a well crafted mix. Peace to the few of us still making them. Peace to all the repurposed gems.
Hip Hop isn’t something you do. It’s something you live.
Enjoy.
