Rock the Bells 2011 Video Highlights
Unfortunately, I was not able to attend this year's Rock the Bells. Instead, I spent my Saturday praying to the porcelain god. From what I hear, the festival went as expected. The usual suspects impressed (Nas, Rae & Ghost, Badu, Cypress Hill, Souls) while others disappointed (Lauryn Hill, Blackstar missed their set time). Any firsthand reports? More video after the jump.

I saw Nas and Damian Marley perform together a few years ago at Rock the Bells and was pleasantly surprised at each could yin to the others yang. By looks of the video footage is looks like they have raised their performance level another notch.

Video: Nas and Damian Marley Preview
The video is worth a watch just to see Jr. Gong getting down on the MPC. Nothing special, but I didn't know Gong Jr. used the MP. In terms of the album: I hate to say this because I think both Nas and Damian Marley's hearts are in the right place, but the little music I've heard from the upcoming album doesn't sound wonderful. Maybe I'll be surprised. But so far, I'd be lying if I said I'm counting the days until the album drops.

I watched this promo video last night for the 9 millionth time and still felt like I wanted to run out the door and cop Illmatic as if I had never heard it before. There was just something special about producers like Large Pro, Primo, Q-Tip, Pete Rock, and L.E.S., all getting behind Nas and ensuring his first album would be a Hip Hop classic. If by chance you haven't seen this video, please watch and enjoy. If you've already seen it, watch it again to remind yourself why you love this music so much.

Don't Be a Cracker and Buy N***er
Nas' new album drops this Tuesday, and all the snippets I've heard sound very good. Apparently, the album has been making its rounds around the downloading circuit for weeks. PLEASE SUPPORT THE ALBUM AND BUY IT!! I know this may sound hypocritical coming from a guy who hosts a site where people can download old mixes for free. However, I'd like to think there is a difference between downloading a mix from the late nineties and jacking a new album from one of Hip Hop's finests. The music industry is on life support. I know that there are some positive and negative aspects to the decline of the "old" music distribution model. And yes, I am aware of all the arguments in favor of revolutionizing the way in which music is distributed and consumed. With all that aside, it still comes down to basic economics 101 supply and demand principles, we must support quality music (in other words buy and demand) when it is released, so more of it is produced (supply). In other words, DON'T BE A CRACKER AND BUY N***ER (I mean the "untitled" album)***Sorry for the midday rant, more new music posted below***
