The Book of Love Vol. 1 - Mixed by DJ Steve1der

Since today is the first day of February, I thought I'd post a little something to get you all in the spirit of Valentine's Day. Below is what Steve1der had to say about the mix.

I MADE THIS MIX IN 2007, RIGHT WHEN I GOT SERATO & REALIZED ALL I HAD TO DO WAS TYPE A WORD IN & ANY SONG WITH THAT WORD WOULD BE GROUPED TOGETHER (MUCH EASIER THAN GOING THRU ALL MY RECORDS). THIS IS THE RESULT: THE BOOK OF LOVE VOL.1. AS YOU'D GUESS, THE THEME IS LOVE. THE MIX IS FILLED WITH HIP-HOP, SOUL, DISCO, R&B & REGGAE CLASSICS. I FINISHED VOL.2 (WHICH I WILL POST SOON) & AM CURRENTLY WORKING ON VOLUME 3. ENJOY!!!

Really? Damn that makes me hate digital deejays even more. Serato has really made alot so-called deejays lazy and unskillful. Especially the newbies. Track selection is becoming a lost art amongst post 2000's digital deejays.

I hear what you're saying, but I'll tell you through firsthand experience that staring at a laptop screen is not the same as diggin' through your crates. I've seen a lot of our favorite deejays look lost when using serato. Yes, the program makes it easy to find a bunch of songs that have "love" in the title, but searching your harddrive is not the same as thumbing through one of your crates. I'm not trying to say that digital deejaying doesn't allow newbies to cut corners etc... I'm just trying to say that some of those corners that are being cut don't necessarily work in the deejays advantage. So in the case of this mix, serato only allowed steve1der to find all the songs in his crates/harddrive that have "love" in the title without having thumb through his entire collection. That didn't necessarily make his track selection better, it just saved him a bunch of time.

Dynamic, did you even listen to this mix? It's really quite dope and if you listened to it you would realize that it is far from lazy. And I think the track selection is great. I 100% agree with pipo here... Look at it like this, does finding this mix on the internet instead of buying it at the local independent store or flea market make you a lazy listener?
