EPMD Special Edition Mixtape - Mixed by DJ Scratch

I just finished watching the volume of Beef that goes into the whole breakup of EPMD and thought this mix would be appropriate for a re-post Friday. Listening to EPMD has never been the same after hearing that story of Eric Sermon robbing Parish Smith in his own home at gun point.

Future Vintage - A Melotropic Mixtape

There are certain things in life that just always guarantee satisfaction; dark seedy bars with Newcastle on tap, an episode of Sopranos, Tarantino films, Lakers losses, and mixes that start with Keith Sweat jams. Now, before you go judging a book by its cover, this isn't a R&B type mix. The mix just starts off with Keith Sweat. After that, the mix goes into left field with lovely foul ball type music.

Mr. Choc Live at Soulsessions

Don't get out to the bars much these days, so watching Mr. Choc party-rocking on youtube will have to do.

O.G. Style - Mixed by DJ Rectangle

**Please excuse my dust all. I accidentally changed my template while screwing around. It will take me a few days to clean up all the kinks. **

I do believe this is the first Rectangle mix to make it to the blog. Shame on deejay who don't respect Rectangle's contribution to the mixtape game.

Soul Assassins Breaks 2 - Mixed by DJ JS-1

Below is JS-1's description of the mix.

This is part 2 of my original samples n breaks mix that i did on Muggs' & Mr Choc's West Wing show on Shady 45 for Sirius/XM satellite radio. We were in Cali recording an album, i basically woke up, wake-n-bake and jumped into a 2 hour breaks set with no headphones... The part 1 is also available for download below. Part 1 has more popular samples you probably know or heard, and part 2 is for the more experienced listener... lol.. once again, shout out to Muggs, Mr Choc, Ern Dawg, General Mils... now go slap someone!!!

*i am not posting a tracklisting for sample/break sets... find them yourself!!!

Ike's Mood - Mixed by DJ Muro

I originally posted this mix back in xmas 08. Most of you were probably too busy looking for Santa to listen to this mix, so here goes another one.

Footprints - Mixed by Swiff Laroc

Found this mix in my inbox a few weeks back, gave it a listen, and came away from the mix thoroughly pleased. Swiff Laroc describes the mix as the set he would like perform if he were ever to get the opportunity to spin at the Do-Over. Hell, if it were up to me, I'd give em a shot.

Those of you who enjoyed yesterday's mix will really appreciate this video of Mr. Galactus mixing all sorts of gems.

Kon & Amir: 50 Greatest Samples...

Great read for a Sunday morning. I'm sure most of you will critique the list to no end. But, I'll tell you this... I've gone the last 6 weeks without my turntables because I had to pack everything up to show and sell my condo. Being without my tables for the last 6 weeks has been like living without a piece of my soul. Little inspiration, little creativity, everything has just felt very gray. The half hour I spent reading this article was the first time I have felt "normal" in a long time. Hope you all enjoy.

DJ Scratch Live at Core DJ Retreat

Wow! Great set by DJ Scratch. He had me at scratchin' the beat to Top Billin', but he goes on for another 10 minutes of straight turntable wizardry.

Alchemist v. Just Blaze Sound Clash

Watching Alchemist v. Just Blaze Soundclash, $25 (I think). Throwing back a nice imported beer while watching Alchemist v. Just Blaze, $5. Leaving a tip for the restroom attendant so not to feel uncomfortable when you come back to relieve yourself again one hour later, $1. Listening to the guy with the camera rapping along to "Tick Tock" with a heavy french accent, priceless.

The Masters - Mixed by The Conmen (Jake One and Mr. Supreme)

I guess I originally posted this back during the fall of 08. Read the original post below to see the wonderfully optimistic outlook I had on the future.

Was it me, or did this week go by slower than a hot summer night with no a/c. Maybe it was the nonstop news of the world's financial collapse, or maybe it was the realization that Thomas Hobbes was right after all, "life is nasty brutish and short." Whatever it was, there has never been a greater need to just lose yourself in the things you love most. If you are a frequenter of this blog, I'm guessing that one of those things that you love is music. So sit back, relax, and listen to Jake One and Mr. Supreme mix all your favorite soul and funk breaks. While you are listening to the mix, try to forget the fact that our futures are as uncertain as the release date for Detox. Sorry for the negativity overkill, but it's been that kind of week.

The Originals Tape

Nice sample-based mix. Not too obscure, but obscure enough so that you don't get bored. I'd tell you who the dj is behind this mix, but I can't read German. If anybody can read German, feel free to go here and tell the rest of us who we should credit for this mix.

Diggin on Blue - Mixed by Biz Markie

Original post below.

Even though he is well known for rocking the parties of your favorite hip hop moguls, the diabolical one is better known for having records, than he is known for mixing them. With all that said, Biz does his thing on this mix. Obviously, the song selection is air tight, but the real show is how Biz blends together an assortment of Blue Note classics. I'll admit that I slept on this mix because I did not expect much out of Biz Markie. Much to my pleasant surprise, Biz' mixing skills are at center stage with him rocking doubles so all the naysayers (like myself) know that he's nice on the 1's and 2's, but not too much double rocking so that you are not overly annoyed with the same break over and over again.

DJ Premier & Pete Rock Live in Tokyo

Question: In the history of all deejaying, has any deejay ever played the Scenario and cut into a new song before the Busta verse?

J. Rocc Live at Shoes House

If I ruled the world I would have enough money to keep J.Rocc on the Pipo payroll to deejay at the crib every Friday night. Saturday nights would be followed by Jazzy Jeff, while Sunday nights would be reserved for the cool-out and DJ Spinna. While I'm in the business of ruling the world, I'd also use my power to commission the writers from the Sopranos and The Wire to write new episodes that would air on Wednesday and Thursday nights. What about Monday and Tuesday nights? Well, somebody has got to pay for all of this. Those would be work nights.

Live in Tokyo 2005 - Mixed by DJ Mitsu

Jazzy kush. Write-up below.

If one person holds the flag for Jazzy Sport, it's got to be Mitsu. A world renowned DJ, producer and 1/3 of the hip-hop group Gagle. He's been spotlighted for years with production that's channeled the greats from the mid '90s. If there's one thing I respect most about Jazzy Sport, is not only do they just stick to representing quality soul and electronic music, they're dedicated to keeping underground hip-hop alive.
