Great brazillian and latin set by the funky pres. Unfortunately, they are not allowing this mix to be downloaded, so here is the stream.

Here is what DJ Parler had to say about the mix.

"My latest project is similar in vein to past Samplology mixes - this project contains some of my favorite love-inspired hip hop tracks, their samples, and love-inspired originals to some of your favorite tracks. No track listing, one mp3, enjoy..."

Looks like HBO finally got its mojo back. With new hit shows like How to Make it in America and new promising shows to come such as Boardwalk Empire, Cocaine Cowboys, and Treme; it looks like HBO is back! Adding to that line-up, take a look at this documentary about the skating scene in NYC. "The Get By: Making it on the Streets of NYC” chronicles the lives of New York City skaters, and their struggle to hustle their way through the Big Apple and make it to the top of the skateboarding world. The highlights feature Jake Johnson, Gino Iannucci, Black Rob, Anthony Pappalardo, and Jahmal Williams. All these skaters are considered the best of the best and are in high demand and rarely seen on film. Very inspiring (and I'm not even a skater).

Not a bad way to spend 15 minutes. This documentary follows Jay and the events surrounding his life leading up to his 9/11/09 concert at MSG.

This mix was a real fan favorite a year ago so I thought I'd give it another post for those who missed it the first time around.

Director Jony Lyle gives a quick teaser of his upcoming film To Have & To Hold. Lyle describes the film as a ‘musicmentory’ to celebrate the age of vinyl records.
The film promises enough archive footage, records rooms, music collections, pressing plants, and rare vinyl to satisfy even the most die hard physical music addicts. The doc features interviews with notable vinyl aficionados as Questlove, Chuck D, Bobbito Garcia, DJ Amir, Bruce Lundvall, Christian Marclay, and Paul Mawhinney.

Cool video of Marco Polo making some beats using his laptop, mpc, records, and a synth. I wonder if Marco Polo is still using that laptop from 95 that he was using in the last video I saw of him.

This one definitely deserves a re-post. Original post below.

If you title your mixtape after one of the baddest movies of all time you better come correct. Well, I wouldn't be posting this mix 13 years after it was originally released if it wasn't classic material. So let's start off the week like it's 1996 all over again. Have a great week everybody.

These short films are straight money. Film #11 shows Babu's visit to nyc filled with all sorts of footage of home studios, professional studios, and a lot of blunt smoking. Film #12 consists of 8 minutes of bong rips, blunt rolls, and more smoking than a Cheech and Chong movie.

Whoever edited this video was a little too quick on the edit button. Nevertheless, you can still get a feel for how Clark Kent rocks a party. Now, before some of you get all critical and start complaining about Clark Kent not doing this or that, remind yourself that 99.99% of you would be cumming in your pants if you had a crowd reacting to your every record the way Clark does in this video. Who is the .01% that has the right to complain (as if there is anything to complain about)? Well, bet you didn't think your favorite dj downloads mixes from this blog too.

This is the kind of thing that just makes me feel that there is no creative limit to what deejays can produce. You may not think it's all that special. But this video has inspired the hell out of me. Below is J.Period's explanation of the project.

Today, March 9, 2010, J.Period and “Uncle” Ralph are pleased to present the first installment of the March 9: Video Remix Collection: “Flava in Ya Ear (March 9 Video Remix),” a club-shattering blend of old and new that will have you pressing the rewind button… repeatedly. Then tonight, join J.Period & Ralph McDaniels as they premiere additional videos from the March 9: Video Remix Collection at Diddy & Mr. Cee’s B.I.G. Tribute at The Lab in Brooklyn, NY!! And later this month, tune in as BET’s “The Deal” premieres March 9: Video Remixes as part of its own B.I.G. tribute. Want the latest? All March 9: Video Remixes and original remixes will be available throughout the month at: www.jperiod.com/march9

I may have posted this already, but I don't think I posted the entire documentary because I don't remember it being this long. In any event, it's always fun to see Pete Rock squeezing every second of sample time out of that sp. Damn, I totally forgot about Common spitting over that Pete Rock beat.

This video was made in promotion of the King of Beats Producer Event in London. The event took place last month, but I found the video to be inspiring nonetheless.

In the spirit of Guru's recovery, I thought it would be appropriate to re-post this Gangstarr mix I did 2 years ago. In a blog related note, an updated link to yesterday's Live from 148th St. mix is posted below. Also, below is my original description of the mix.

Making a GangStarr mix is a lot like making a pizza. It's difficult to royally screw up, but it's very easy to make it bland and forgettable. On the other hand, if you can make a great pizza there is nothing better in the world to eat. In creating this GangStarr mix, I am well aware that I am kinda, sorta, reinventing the wheel here. However, you may notice that there are countless Best of Primo mixes, but not many mixes devoted just to GangStarr. Anybody who is a Primo fan knows that he saved his best beats for the GangStarr albums. Enter, the whole theme of the mix. With this mix, I wanted to do exactly what the title suggests, create a soliloquy of GangStarr beats with a few Guru verses thrown-in here and there. In other words, shine a light on Primo's GangStarr production without boring an audience that is very familiar with the music, but still entertain that same audience with the quality of the mix.
With 31 tracks squeezed into just 33 minutes, the mix is a potent blend of 90% of the essential
GangStarr tracks (I'll leave 10% for all of you to moan and groan about). While listening to the mix, I challenge you to think of any Hip Hop act who could fill 33 minutes (with 31 tracks no less) with the same level of quality music.

** Link has been updated. Sorry about that. **

So far, this is my favorite mix of 2010. Omega's description of the mix below.

Originally titled Live from Harlem, I tried to pick up where Riz finished on Live from Brooklyn. The mix actually goes in a different direction so I called it live from 148th instead.
All the tracks are well known and the run time is about 30 minutes. Expect quick transitions and blends.
