Where Are You Running to Next? - Rich Medina, Don Cannon, DJ Mars
I've always been a New Balance head. But, if I wasn't, I'd be one now after this little promotional campaign directly targeting me. I'm sure most of you will identify with parts of Rich Medina's views on records, family, music, etc... Don Cannon and DJ Mars after the jump.
Amy Winehouse vs. Lily Allen

Best of Common - Mixed by DJ Pump
"Best of..." mixes are hard to pull off. Most artists who are worth putting together a "best of..." mix have been mixed a million times over. As a result, it's hard to bring something new to these type of mixes. That is why I've got to give DJ Pump a lot of props for this one right here. You'll hear all your favorite Common joints blended over breaks and instrumentals that are different from the originals, but fit very nicely with the chosen acapellas. Highly Recommended.
Chorizo Chunks 10 - Mixed by Chorizo Funk
This was recorded live in Austin TX at the monthly party Body Rock. This was a special night where we departed from our typical funk/soul/hip-hop/party rock selctions. Afro-Latin-Tropical was the flavor. Mostly classic cumbia/salsa with some contemporary tracks from Quantic, Antibalas, Whiskey Barons, Nickodemus, etc. As always live hosting and hypeness from Riders Against the Storm (RAS).
Pop, Lock, Funk and Get Some Fun - Mixed by DJ Smokey
Pop, Lock, Funk and get some Fun is a mix dedicated to the break dance community all over the world, unlike other b boy breaks mixtapes, this work is based on hip hop tracks with full on rhymes witha a b boy friendly tempo. Although features many classic records contains also some dusted not so played out material aswell as new releases, all spiced up with scratches and doubles.
As always this mix was recorded in one take and it has not been edited, so still has that old skool feel of not added FX or edits, press play and ejoy
Nas, Rakim, & EPMD Perform at Peter Rosenber's 40th BDay
Okay, I was hating on the fact that Peter Rosenberg gets to live every hip hopper's dream. But, being able to dictate their set list too?!?! Damn, hope dude enjoyed it. If you can do it, more power to you. Rakim and EPMD after the jump.

Class Material 1995 - Mixed by Chris Read
Hardest working man in the mix game is back again.
Edition #9 of our monthly Classic Material series pays tribute to the hip hop of 1995. The output of '95 arguably typifies what is often referred to as the 'mid 90s sound', with filtered and layered grooves accompanying crisp programmed drums at a tempo generally far lower than in previous years. The general trend for decreasing tempos peaked in '95 with a significant proportion of single releases barely breaking the 90bpm mark.
1995 is also notable for the rise of a darker more melancholy production style with even the darkest of backdrops (Mobb Deep's Shook Ones Part 2 for example) scoring as unlikely club hits. There were of course also a host of more typically upbeat club tracks, Blahzay Blahzay's 'Danger' and ODB's 'Shimmy Shimmy Ya' being good examples.

Hip Hop Gold Pt. 2 (Live Mix) - Mixed by DJ Chiskee
The track selection on this mix is absolutely brilliant. Chiskee seamlessly blends together an array of hip hop tracks that are all on the mellower side. I'm a sucker for mellow, introspective rap songs. In most cases, those joints tend to do be the best cut on the album. Listen and enjoy. Highly recommended. Tracklist after the jump.
"1-9-9-5" - Maffew Ragazino Feat. Jon Connor
This video/rap homage to 1995 took me straight down memory lane. Where were you in 1995? 1995 was a good year for me: Brasil was the reigning world cup champion, Ready 2 Die and E. 1999 Eternal were burning my tape deck, my dream of being a NBA star was still alive and well, met wifey, still hadn't royally f*cked up my high school career, curfew was 11pm, got my driver's license, my biggest worry was over the time I'd get to the park to play ball, baggy jeans were still in, tight clothing was still out, having a pager meant that you were somebody, the beat junkies were all over L.A. radio, 2pac & Biggie were still alive (though beefin'), Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro still made good movies, I don't think Justin Beiber's parents had even met, and beatmakers were still samplin' loops. Ahh, the good ol days.

Sade Blends - Mixed by Paul Nice
I saw this mix posted on another site and a poster complained, "I don't see what's so great about this mix. All he is doing is blending songs with Sade." If you don't understand how brilliant this mix is, you've probably never attempted to make a mixtape.

Classic Material #8 - Mixed by Chris Read
Chris Read hits us off again with another excellent mix filled with high quality blends, a little scratch-scratch here and there, and tasteful remixes. Highly Recommended. Description below.
Edition #8 of our monthly Classic Material series pays tribute to the hip hop of 1994, a year which for many is best remembered for giving us two of hip hop's most revered debut albums, Nas' Illmatic and Notorious B.I.G's Ready to Die. It was also a golden year for radio and mixtape DJs with tapes from the likes of Funkmaster Flex, Stretch Armstrong, Doo Wop, Ron G and others being a key outlet for the new breed of underground acts as well as established names.
Despite tempos generally drifting downward in comparison with previous years and the general sound of the year's output being laidback and largely jazz infused, '94 had its fair share of anthems, Craig Mack's 'Flava In Your Ear', Gang Starr's 'Mass Appeal' and Channel Live's 'Mad Izm' being notable examples.

You can tell I'm a huge Prefuse 73 and Flying Lotus fan......They have made some of the most glitchy, progressive, ecstacy, ill ass drum patterns, head bop music that I can think of in recent years......What I love about this kind of music is there's no preset or definition of sound or song structure yet all these artists definitely contain their own unique style........Songs like these have never existed before and you can't really confine them to genre......True pioneers and visionaries..........another compilation of tracks that take me there when I'm drivin around at night bumpin my subwoofer......
*Glimpse of That Place Part 3* in progress....

Pete Rock Discusses Police Brutality at Album Release Party
I have never been a fan of the police. However, my negative view of the police has softened as I have grown older. Likely, my view of the police has soften because I have gained a greater understanding of how many irresponsible assholes live in this world. As a result, I've developed some appreciation for the difficulty of a police officer's job. With that said, much of my youthful rage against the police has resurfaced in reaction to the video that has surfaced of the police action taken at the Monumental release party. On that note, can anybody (preferably someone who is in law enforcement) explain to me why you'll be hard pressed to find a cop these days policing the street without their terminator sunglasses on? This bothers me to no end. LET ME SEE YOUR GODDAMN EYES! In my view, hiding your eyes is some cowardly ish that criminals do. Eyes reveal emotion and our humanity. If nobody can see your eyes, how can you build any type of relationship with the community you are trying to protect.

Jazzy Jeff Live at Do-Over (6/12/11)
Here is some video from Jazzy Jeff's Do-Over mix from last month. A few observations: 1. You gotta love those shorties in the front who have no clue what Jeff is playing, but nod their heads with such ferocity that you'd swear they were there in the Bronx when Kool Herc was playing records out his apartment window. 2. It appears that the Do-Over crowd got a little bit of a makeover from past years. The crowd use to look like your typical trendy Hollywood crowd filled with a bunch of hipsters and wannabe actors/musicians. Now, the crowd looks like casting central for The Hills. 3. I wonder what the split is between Skillz and Jazzy Jeff? 80-20? If Skillz is getting a dime more than 20% he needs to be locked up. 4. Going along with #3, I wonder if Jeff can deduct the portion of his earnings that he splits with Skillz as a charitable donation? Part II after the jump.
