If there is a better dancehall mix, I'd like to hear it.
I forget who, but somebody requested this mix a few weeks back. So, here you go... The weekend is almost here!
If you need to know what's on this mix, this mix is not for you.
Big ups to my man Derick over at Manifestworldwide for the dope t-shirts I found in my mailbox last night. Who is Derik? You may ask. Well, you might better know him for his artwork on Little Brother's "Get Back" LP. For all you true schoolers out there, check out my man's Spring 09 collection here. Homeboy's clothing company is a straight labor of love. D loves the culture, period. Some of us rap, some of us break-dance, some of us make beats, some of us make mixes, and some of us make t-shirts. Whatever it is, game recognize game.
Somehow this promo mixtape never found its way to me during all the pre-Platform LP hype. Fortunately, my man Omega NYC dug this one out of an old shoe box.
I've got to say that the American Gangster album is one of my favorite albums of the last few years. I love the concept and how it was inspired by the movie, and I especially love all the sample-based music thanks to Puffy and the Hitman (yes, Puffy). Below is a nice mix of the samples used in the album.
This bad boy has been circulating the web all week. Below is Rhettmatic's explanation of the mix.
Many of you have been requesting different 5th Platoon mixes. Now, I don't want to give away my entire catalog all in one day, but here's a little appetizer of more 5th Platoon mixes to come.
Let's face it, the way you feel on Friday night is not the same as the way you feel on a Monday morning. This mix does a nice job of musically capturing the mood for each day of the week.
A little blastmaster on a Monday morning never hurt anybody. Have a great week.
New Jack Swing, DJ Shortkut, need I say more?
No edits, no serato, no nothing. Just two turntables, a mixer, a crowd, and a lot of hiss.
Great mix from back in day on the legendary airwaves of 1580AM KDAY. If you lived in the L.A. area during the 1980's and don't have memories of squeezing your ear to an old radio and listening to the static-filled KDAY mixes then you are either (a) younger than 25 years-old, or (b) were too busy listening to Cindy Lauper in the 80's to have experienced the golden age of hip hop. To learn more about KDAY, go here.
Thank you to Umberto for this one.
This mix wins the award for best mix that I own in which I have not listened to for over 5 years. Great way to start the first full week of 2009.
I think this is the mixtape equivalent to the posse cut. Unlike most posse cuts, this mix is pretty damn good.
Another dope live set from the Do-Over. This mix set has The Rub's DJ Eleven putting down a dope mix of old school hip hop, 90's r&b, and all sorts of other funky jams.
