Ain't that some sh*t! First, we all have to worry about losing our jobs (if you haven't lost it already), now we have to worry about catching some damn swine flu. Like Fat Joe said, "Sh*t is real." You damn right it's real, real f*cked up. Fear not my mix downloading fiends, Dr. Shortkut has got the vaccine for your swine blues.
I don't know a lot about this mix other than that it's got Pete Rock on the tables, and it includes an array of Pete Rock joints. I'm not sure who the machines are, but I'm assuming the machines are the non-Pete Rock tracks on the mix.
You've got to respect Spinbad for this one right here. What's the big deal about another 90's mix? You ask. Well, what separates this 90's mix from the other 5 million 90's mixes out there is that this mix doesn't have any hip hop. That's right, no Tribe, no De La, no Biggie, no Pete Rock, no Primo, none of that. Instead, you get the Spin Doctors, Sublime, Marky Mark, and C&C Music Factory. And, you'll like it! Trust me, you'll love the mix the same way you love your favorite reality show. It won't be something you're proud of, it won't be anything you'll tell your friends about, but you love it all the same. Afterall, MTV wouldn't be airing season 47 of Real World if nobody was watching.
Nice mix of tracks you don't usually see on the same tracklist. The theme is in the title, and in one way or another, we're all clockin'.
Mix re-post #2 is Prince Paul's "Confessions of a Beat Junkie" mix. This mix was originally posted in April 2008. Chances are that you never downloaded this mix because you weren't on the blog back in April 08. We all know Prince Paul as a superb producer, but we often overlook dude's deejay skills. Checkout the mix and see Prince Paul incorporate his signature steez into the mixtape game. Below is the description that was originally posted.
Nothing but funky joints here, mixed by one of the best in the game.
I haven't listened all the way through yet, but given fact that it involves Muro and Finesse, I'm sure it is top notch. ** Check that, I have now listened all the way through and I can tell you that you shouldn't sleep.
This is what the radio should sound like.
I think I'm going to start a new Friday tradition. About every month or so, I go through all of the mixes posted on the site and click on the links to make sure that the links don't go dead. During that tedious process I'm able to see which mixes get a lot of downloads, and which don't. Doing this, I realize that many of you are sleeping on some real quality mixes. Now some of you are sleeping on some of these mixes because you weren't checking the blog in the early days. The rest of you are just straight sleeping. So, I thought it would be a good idea to re-post a mix every Friday that I think isn't getting the download love that it deserves (or you may have just missed). Below is my original description of "4 Turntable Beatdown," by Haul & Mason.
If Jay-Z would like to be lyrically like Talib Kweli, every deejay would like to be as technically skilled as DJ Revolution. Rev is a DJ's DJ. Dude simply takes me back to the drawing board every time I hear one of his mixes.
For those of you who aren't allergic to reading, here is a wonderful Large Pro interview that I found to be very inspiring. The interview cover topics ranging from Large Pro's views on production equipment, getting inspiration from riding the subway, his disdain for t.v., and whether he considers himself a deep thinker.
Dope little underground mix (circa 2003) by the great DJ Revolution.
Sinista was not playin when he made this mix. THIS IS HOW YOU ROCK THE BREAKS! Man, this mix is real serious. The mix is pure perfection. Classic breaks, cuts upon cuts, clean transitions, and vinyl crackles throughout the mix. Man, I'm getting all tearyeyed just thinking about it. Listen and see.
T minus 7 days until More Kush is released for your downloading pleasure. In the meantime, I figured that there is no better way to start the week than with two of the best in the game. I hope everybody has a great week.
Great cool-out mix I got put on to by my man OmegaNYC.
I was in NYC all week and I thought I had scheduled all of my posts, but I apparently messed this one up. Sorry for the delay, here ya go...
The cover has all the information you need. 90's joints, Jazzy Jeff on the cut, need I say more?
Another dope Muro mix where the ichiban deejay mixes up an assortment of tribe breaks, and classic tribe cuts. Part 1 consists of Muro mixing up all tribe breaks, and part 2 has Muro cutting up an assortment of joints featuring different Tribe members.
I'll post the Muro mix later in the week. Until then, enjoy the mix.
For those of you who enjoyed vol. 4, you'll enjoy this one as well. Check that, anybody who enjoys hearing hip hop radio in its hey day will enjoy this mix.
My man OmegaNYC recently dug up this old mix of mine and posted it on his blog. I thought those of you who enjoy my mixes might enjoy this one as well. This mix was made back in 2003/04 (or somewhere around there). In any event, here's a little something to hold all of you over until the 20th.
