Beats, Headphones, & Coffee - Mixed by Pipomixes

I've never listened to as much music on my headphones as I have the last two and half years since my daughter was born. In fact, I've become quite the headphone connoisseur, purchasing five different pairs of headphones in the last year. I've got monitoring headphones, deejaying headphones, walking around the house headphones; I even have a pair of headphones that fit me just right for when I'm laying on the couch just listening to music. That's pretty much what I do. When done doing honey-do's and daddy-do's, I put on my headphones, listen to music, and search for inspiration for my next mix. The problem I had for months was the actual "mixing" part of the equation. I kept wasting my precious free time napping instead of mixing. Enter: coffee. The key ingredient to the equation is coffee because those wonderful brown beans have kept me awake and mixing. The Beats serve as the inspiration. The Headphones allow for hearing the inspiration while Lil Mixes sleeps. And the Coffee keeps me awake enough to create. Tracklist below (sort of).

Madlib beat tapes got so much soul - Flying Lotus, Ras G, and Dibia$e are rock n roll - Jay-Z album cuts are live too, looking out for Four Tet & Koushik remixes when I find you - Bet you didn't know 45 King remixed Stan or that C.R.E.A.M. could be beat less - What the f@!k are Brandi, Aliyah, and R. Kelly doing smoking that Raw Fruit or Beyoncé done getting chopped and screwed? - Watch out J.D., Funky Pres sure freaked Janet's ta tas - Dam U Fudgemunk! How many times you going to rerelease your releases - Enjoy

hey Pipo,

we're kinda of on the same trip right now, except for
the mixing part...even with the diuretic fix of choice. so 'word' on
your quest and making it happen to share with the rest of us that are
struggling.

curious though...i'm wondering what 'cans' you choose
for your applications. don't quite have the quiver you do, but i'm curious
as to know what you endorse. i love my Beyerdynamic 770s for all around
listening, Sony 7506 for when i wanna get serious or when i can't find
my 770s, and then i keep my ATH-M50x by the decks.

and then
coffee...mmmmmmmm! what you slurpin' on? been experimenting with
cold-brew on these muggy-ass dog daze...should be mixing though, not
necessarily mixing beans.

let's set up a play-date. trick. awesome work...keep it going!

ATH-M50s are far away the best bang for your buck headphones. I recommend the M50s for everything if you don't have issues with larger headphones. The M40s are excellent as well. I also own the AIAI TM-1 for "regular" purposes. The sound quality is very good, but they're not for monitoring. My only complaint (which is a big one) about the TM-1s is that they fit a little too snug on my ears and ear fatigue sets in fairly quickly with those. In retrospect, I wish I would have just bought the HD-25s from Sennheiser.

As far as coffee goes, I'm no expert. I typically make instant at home because I don't want a coffee makers taking up real estate in my kitchen and a french press is too much hassle to clean every morning. Nescafe Classico "Suave" is my instant of choice. Outside of that, a freshly brewed cup from just about anywhere is always a good thing IMO.
