The J Tape - Mixed by DJ Total Eclipse

Pipomixes.com unofficially declared a moratorium on all non J. Rocc Dilla mixes last month.  But that moratorium has been temporarily lifted for one of my favorite deejays, Total Eclipse.  As Total Eclipse writes, "The J Tape, featuring tracks, mash ups, and remixes from famous artists sporting the J name (J. Dilla, Jay-Z, Jay Electronica). Influenced by the works of the legendary J. Dilla (RIP), Total Eclipse decided to mix Dilla's incredible production with the vocal stylings of Jay-Z, one of the greatest MCs of all time, and Jay Electronica, one of the most exciting artists to arrive on the Hip-Hop scene in a number of years."  Only the fear of being tagged a Dillastan prevents me from Highly Recommending this mix.

Why do people say it? He's not bad but he's definitely not a second coming of Nas or Rakim. It's nothing but industry hype. In the past few years Jay has produced nothing of worth. it's been five years since Exhibit A and still no album. This man is doomed to be forgotten.

There is a lot of hype, but I have to admit that I've really liked what I've heard. Then again, I was really late on the bandwagon so his music is newer to me than most.

You have to remember the point of this blog is to bring things to the attention of those who might not know about them.. I've heard the name Jay Electronica before, but I figured he'd suck because of all the hype attached. But seeing the name on this site yesterday made me finally listen to his stuff. I don't know how his other stuff is yet, but I listened to the Act 1 Eternal sunshine songs and was like DAMN!!! So for someone like me who'd never heard it, now I have, and I can now go from there..

Based on the Artists featured in this mix im to excited to start listening to this mix. J electronica i hope is heard on a wider scale at some point in this lifetime. His lyrics are timeless and his itelligence is from another planet mixed with a natural delivery, I think he is truly under rated. I hope the ROC really pushes his material and he blows

i feel like jay's goose is cooked. he took too long. he's a dope mc, but i don't think you can go big unless you make a hit.

it has to be good music. he has to extend beyond the underground hip hop head demographic. jay's dope but he's not buttery. he can't write a hook. he's too abstract to identify with. great use of metaphor but you can't live vicariously through him. great storyteller but not great at telling his own story.

i like jay, but he's too niche.
