Roland TR-808 Documentary

Great little mini-documentary about the legendary 808 drum machine. I've been wanting to do an 808 mix for years now but have been too affriad for fear of including a song that doesn't incorporate an 808 clap. I have nightmares of some beat nerd sh*tting all over one my mixes because I didn't do my homework. Props to anybody who pulls that mix off. Just be sure to at least credit your boy with the idea.

Ah man, that's a tall order. I'll do my best. Give me a couple weeks and I'll do it when I'm on summer break and have more time. If it's not done by June, remind me again and I promise you it will get done....eventually

BTW, I've been considering changing up my blog to just blog about my kid instead of all these mixes.

Just kidding

Haha I would be a very sad person if pipomixes turned into piposkid.

And thank you, I appreciate it. I just got done with school today so I am looking forward to kicking back and catching up on some of the mixes you've posted over the last few months so I will certainly have enough mixes to keep me busy until you can get around to it. You can expect a reminder on May 30th because I am going on a road trip June 2nd so it would be great if you could post it sometime around those days.

Thanks again pipo! By the way this was a great video although it took forever to load. I don't know how affordable $1000 is for "poor kids from the south bronx" like the narrator claims but everything else was intresting.

I don't think George was implying that $1000 was cheap, but rather that it was accessible compared to the alternatives.

The evidence that the 808 was accessible is that people bought it and used it. At the time, the alternative was to learn how to buy a drum set, learn how to play it, and then pay for studio time. Or you could buy a LinnDrum for $3k. Plus, none of those had the 808 kick, which is the distinguishing feature.

By the way, here's that J3 mix...

Eric Nord, thank you! When researching the J3 mix i saw you posted it on your twitter but that led me to another zshare link, but thank you so much! Also, thanks for clarifying what was said about the 808 price, on a second watch of the video that makes more sense.

thanks again!

My pleasure. This J3 mix is a tough one for people to host because it's The Be*tles.

Eric,

Do you know if the ammendenum (?) is still floating around to? Remember you mentioning it in the last post of the Beatlemania mix...

Cheers!
