I put this fix together on the fly for a family road trip earlier in the year. Nothing fancy, smooth transitions, no bad language, just a whole lot of funk. Pop this on, it's the soundtrack to your summer.
Tuxedo are Mayer Hawthorne (Aquarius) and Jake One (Taurus). Their collaboration as Tuxedo began with an exchange of mixtapes way back in 2006 and through their love of 80s soul and funk. Their music is a throwback to the funk and boogie of the eighties, heavy in bass synth and catchy grooves and choruses.
Tuxedo’s body of work, while wholly original, is an exercise in honoring its forebears, recalling the future-funk wobble of Zapp, Gap, Jam/Lewis and Junie Morrison, while nodding lyrically to Mtume, Jodeci and Cameo.
