Soliloquy of GangStarr - Mixed by Pipomixes (*Sticky*)

Yup, it's been a year since Guru passed away. Originally released by in 2008, I'm re-posting this mix to commemorate Guru's passing. Though the original description of the mix has little to do with Guru's death, I thought I'd include it just to give the mix a little context.

Making a GangStarr mix is a lot like making a pizza. It's difficult to royally screw up, but it's very easy to make it bland and forgettable. On the other hand, if you can make a great pizza there is nothing better in the world to eat. In creating this GangStarr mix, I am well aware that I am kinda, sorta, reinventing the wheel here. However, you may notice that there are countless Best of Primo mixes, but not many mixes devoted just to GangStarr. Anybody who is a Primo fan knows that he saved his best beats for the GangStarr albums. Enter, the whole theme of the mix. With this mix, I wanted to do exactly what the title suggests, create a soliloquy of GangStarr beats with a few Guru verses thrown-in here and there. In other words, shine a light on Primo's GangStarr production without boring an audience that is very familiar with the music, but still entertain that same audience with the quality of the mix.
With 31 tracks squeezed into just 33 minutes, the mix is a potent blend of 90% of the essential GangStarr tracks (I'll leave 10% for all of you to moan and groan about). While listening to the mix, I challenge you to think of any Hip Hop act who could fill 33 minutes (with 31 tracks no less) with the same level of quality music.

Sup Pipo?? can't believe it's already been a year since Guru's passing....thanks for putting this mix back up again....i hadn't listened to it for some time....good selections and flow, there's definitely some tracks i missed and need to obtain....

DJ Premiere in "Deep Concentration" and "Who's gonna take the weight" are probably the main reasons (of course Jazzy Jeff too) why i ever got into deejaying in the first place...I was so drawn to those scratches and tones...

Premiere is the one DJ who can abstract frequency tones (where others cannot) and break down sentences like no other...I've tried to mimic his exact scratch phrases for many years to no avail.... his sense of timing and flow is pure turntable jazz... scratching has evolved (and it's crazy now what people are doing) but sometimes some good old fashioned rhythmic transforming will take you there...

kinda like Q-bert and Revolution bugging out on seeing Jazzy Jeff doing his old 1988 transformer scratch routine in 2011....it's all good, and connected, the old styles and the new styles...
