This past weekend I hit up Egon's store Rappcats where DJ Shadow was selling some of his vast collection. I missed the opening day but snuck in and out on Sunday with a random high school band record, featuring a nice cover of Freddie Hubbard's "Little Sunflower" as well as some original tunes. That record reminded me I'd been wanting to do a school band episode of Pullin for awhile now, so it was a good inspiration to dig through my crate of very random college and high school music for a couple of my favorites. You never know what you're getting with these records - so many are poor quality recordings or cheesy renditions, but among the many there are some real gems. Hope you dig.

On this episode I've included the title track to start off the set. Latin You Know! (When Hip Hop Samples Latin Music) - Mixed by DJ DS
As it’s summer here in the UK, I naturally start to listen to more Brazilian & Latin music alongside the normal diet of hip hop, etc. With my father being Portuguese, maybe it’s imprinted in my DNA.
I’ve called it ‘Latin You Know’ for two reasons. The first is letting you know all about the music’s roots & where the breaks come from. The other is that you will hopefully hear tracks that you recognise but didn’t realise that you knew.
I’ve added a track list as usual to give the artists the credit & so that if you’ve not dug in the Brazilian & Latin crates before, then this may give you a nice starting point. I warn you though, it’s a deep, deep rabbit hole but a hugely rewarding one!

Gift of Gab was most definitely a big part of my life's soundtrack since high school. I might have seen Blackalicious in concert more often than any other group. He was one of the most brilliant emcees I've ever heard, and from all accounts was just a great human. Sending love out to his family and friends. This is just a short tribute mix with a few favorite tracks and a few samples that give me that feeling that became part of the legendary music he and Chief Xcel made together. RIP.

Believe it or not, I rank De La Soul is Dead as it's fourth best effort. However, in the form of this mix; I'd rank it higher.
