BBC Radio One Essential Mix #6 (7/2/16) - Mixed by DJ Shadow
Most people have been pretty critical of the first hour, but the second hour is more of what you'd expect from a Shadow mix. Personally, I don't find the first hour as objectionable as most. Dare I say I kinda liked it.

I had never seen this video of DJ Shadow before. This is next level ish by 2014 standards. However, it's even crazier to think about how ahead of his time Shadow was/is when you consider that this performance occurred 12 years ago.
Freeze - Cut Chemist and DJ Shadow
Cut and Shadow's Brainfreeze mix is classic on many levels. For whatever reason, I never showed any interest in watching this video of the two performing the Brainfreeze mix live. For a good 5-10 years, I would see this VHS (back when people owned such things) everywhere I would go. You'd think I'd eventually breakdown and cop the VHS. It's not like I'm above buying wack ish (not that this is wack by any means). Long story short, I highly recommend you watch this video if you are dumb like me and just refused to buy it for no good reason. I even recommend you watch it again if you were smart enough to watch it back in the day. These two were/are way ahead of their time.

For those of you who really think about this craft of ours on a deep, intellectual level, this interview is for you. Shadow has always been one of (if not the most) articulate deejay in the game. Watch Shadow opine about a variety of topics that range from his initial attraction to music, balancing touring with family, being forced to make artistic compromises as a deejay and artist, arguing with Q-Bert over the name "Shadow," among other topics. Props to Revolution for asking all the questions that really got Shadow to open up. Highly Recommended.

Brainfreeze Part 1 - Mixed by DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist
The Brainfreeze mix was originally recorded on 2x4's as a practice session for a show in February 1999 at the Future Primitive Soundsession (San Francisco). Shadow and Chemist only mixed original pressings of funk and soul 45's (which is why they had to do it in one take). Initially 1000 copies were made and sold at the shows, and an additional 1000 copies were made and distributed to local records stores in California (and sold out very quickly). I remember buying my copy at Noise, Noise, Noise in Costa Mesa, CA. A cease-and-desist letter from 7-11 was then issued because 7-11 got their panties tied in a knot over the artwork and styling being based on their logos and uniforms. Following the cease-and-desist order, copies of the mix were taken off the shelves and the bootlegging started.Below is the first part of Brainfreez. I'll post part 2 tomorrow.
