Invisibl Scratch Piklz at NAMM 2016
Q-Bert, D-Styles, and Shorkut demoing the new Pioneer turntables. God forbid one of my Technics TTs craps out on me (which is not beyond the realm of possibilities given how much my 4-year-old plays on them), I think I'd go with these Pioneer TTs to replace them. Anybody using them? Thoughts, recommendations for other TTs? I haven't been in the market for over 20 years.

@DJQBert isn't one of those dudes who has to talk over every damn record he spins; he prefers to let his hands do the talking. And trust—they speak volumes. Today, Mass Appeal premieres DJ QBert's latest mix with DJ Rockit Rooster (winner of DJ QBert's "Corn Turd Sandwich Battle” 2015), HARD BOILED SCRAMBLED EGG Break Mix Part 2.

This is about as Highly Recommended as it gets. QBert putting in some serious work here.
Crate Diggers - Qbert
In this episode of Crate Diggers, renowned scratcher DJ Qbert shows us what a record collection geared toward competitive scratching and playing parties looks like, while also talking influences from graffiti to Devo.
"Before hip hop I was heavily influenced by Devo," he says, telling a story of being exposed to the New Wave luminaries during an elementary school presentation. "Later I found out they were heavily influenced by Kraftwerk."
As a kid growing up in San Francisco in the '80s, Qbert heard limited things that would trickle down to the radio and TV stations he struggled to access.
"The only thing we could do is tune into a station you could barely hear," he says of his childhood. "The only thing we had that was weird was Channel 9, it was like public TV. And sometimes at 4 a.m. or 3 a.m. they would play Devo videos. That was it for us. That was the only thing we could get."
Later in the episode, he speaks lovingly of records with graffiti covers, showing off Fab 5 Freddy's "Change the Beat" and Schooly D's Saturday Night!. He then rifles through his organized but disparate collection, showing off records from Saturday morning cartoons, comedians and African artists like Royal Steel Band.
But his most prized possession is a signed copy of Marley Marl's In Control, Volume 1.
"Wow!" Qbert exclaims. "This is old as hell. I remember one time he gave me his phone number and I was like 'Oh, wow! Cool!' But I never called him. I was too scared. I'm still scared."

Demolition Pumpkin Sqeeze Musik - Mixed by Q-bert
Q-bert certainly impacted deejay culture like few others have. However, his style has never really been my cup of tea. As a result, I've never really checked any of his mixes. Out of pure curiosity I gave this mix a listen and was completely blown away. Essentially, this is a classic break mix put together with the technical wizardry that only Q-bert can provide. Enjoy.

Part 2 of a very thoughtful conversation/interview between Revolution and Q-Bert. Q-Bert discusses how he makes money, stays healthy, and how DJ Shortkut was his best customer back in day when Q-Bert was pushing battle tapes on VHS. On a side note, I have to do whatever Q-Bert is doing to stay looking so young. Dude is like the Dick Clark of deejaying, but on steroids. He's pushing 44 and looks 18.
