ArtDontSleep Podcast V (Mixed by Rich Medina)
We are proud to be working with two of our favorite and two of the most legitimate Afrobeat teachers of our time, Tony Allen and Rich Medina! We have had the chance to work with Tony Allen a couple of times before. Once when we paired him with Roy Ayers in 2008 and another when we tour managed and booked the Brasilintime project in Europe. He is one of our favorite people on planet earth and one of the greatest drummers of all time! We also have a very long and awesome history of working with Rich Medina! One of the best djs on planet earth today and father of the infamous Jump n Funk parties in NYC!
Fela Kuti, his message and the music he is credited for, means a lot to us over at ArtDontSleep. We don’t take his heritage in vein and aim to present a very serious homage to his greatness and the impact he has forever left on music lovers around the world.
We are also pleased to present our newest podcast, and Rich Medina was kind enough to dig into his Afrobeat Archives and bless us with a 100% all vinyl and LIVE mix! Download and or stream it free, here!
“The mix is a segment of an entire night of Jump N Funk at Martinez Gallery (RIP) in Greenpoint, Brooklyn from 5/17/03. Before Serato, and no CD’s, this is strictly analog Afro Heat for y’all. Love Afro Life!” – Rich Medina

Rich Medina on Crazy Leg's Lunch Breaks Show
Video streaming by Ustream
I dig the whole concept of streaming a live mix show from your kitchen on the daily. Personally, my favorite part of the whole video is seeing what appears to be Crazy Leg's wife coming in and out of the kitchen (obviously implying that she's completely cool with having the whole turntable setup in her kitchen). There's a special place in heaven for Mrs. Legs. Medina gets on the wheels at around the 1 hour 15 minute mark.
Africa in Your Earbuds #14 - Mixed by Rich Medina
You knew it was only a matter of time before one of these OkayAfrica mixes was brought to you by the unofficial African rhythm deejay of the USA, Rich Medina. Enjoy
Get Angry - Mixed by Rich Medina
Get Angry is a collaboration between DJ Rich Medina, and painter Tatyana Fazlalizadeh. Inspired by the fervor of protest that amounted in 2011, Tatyana created a series of paintings to illustrate the various movements - from Tahrir Sq to Wall St, from London to Troy Davis, from Slutwalk to the demand for gay marriage rights - while Rich Medina created a mix of songs that represent the spirit of and energy of revolution.
101 Apparel Mixes
A bunch of sampler mixes to start the week off. 101 Apparel has been including "promo" mixes by some of the best deejays in the game with the purchase of a t-shirt. You can read Spinna's description of the above mix below, and sampler mixes by Rich Medina and Kon&Amir after the jump.
Throughout my years of digging for records I've always been particularly drawn to music that is heavily influenced by the electronic revolution. There was a long stretch where I would specifically hunt for Moog, New Age, Jazz Fusion, & experimental records... anything that involved synthesizers, but still had a groove. Upon the inquiry from 101 Apparel to come up with a concept for a mix my initial thought was it has to be unique. It was the opportune time for compiling tracks from past to present that capture the electronic experience. Future Shock is born and is without a doubt one of the most brain crushing mixes I've ever done! I hope you dig it" - DJ Spinna
Tru Thoughts Funk - Mixed by Rich Medina
Quite a bit of funky, soulful music smoothly mixed together by one of the better mixers in the game. I know some of you call him a "hipster" deejay. I'm not really sure what that means, but keep in mind that Medina has been doin' it since way before it became hip to be or hate on a hipster.
Rich Medina Spinning 45's
If I remember correctly, none of you mentioned Rich Medina as a "slept-on" deejay. I would like to make my disagreement with all of you official.
Rich Medina and Benji B Live in London
Too bad the sound quality isn't better on these videos because I'd love to get a hold of the audio for listening purposes.
Rich Medina Live at the Do-Over
Nice to see that Mel from Flight of the Concords is a Rich Medina fan as well.
