DJ MYSTRO: 1987-1988 Mixes - Cut Chemist

I know Cut Chemist has been around for a while, but I had no idea Cut Chemist was creating Dr. Dre Roadium quality megamixes at the very same time Dr. Dre was creating  those legendary mixes. HERE are some megamixes (circa 1987-88) that Cut released on his Bandcamp site last week.

Cut Chemist NAMM 2019 Routine

This is just a small taste of all the dope material I found from the recent NAMM convention. The problem is that 99% of it is on Instagram; of which 99% of was live streamed (meaning you can't save or embed the videos).  Not really sure why all the vendors don't want these videos saved and shared.  They probably do, but are too busy being "cool" to realize being cool is working against their promotional efforts.  Either way, this set is Highly Recommended.

Impeach the Precedent - Mixed by Cut Chemist

Of all the classic drum breaks, Impeach the President is by far my favorite.  Highly Recommended mix by one of the great DJs of songs that all sampled the famous break.

Solid Steel Radio Show "Funk Off" Mix - Mixed by Cut Chemist

Only Cut Chemist can pull a mix like this off.

Solid Steel (16th May)This week the show has a distinct 80's feel about it starting with a mix from Cut Chemist featuring remixes and songs from 'Funk Off', a compilation of music by 1980's French post punk, industrial, minimal collective Vox Populi! and Pacific 231. Cut Chemist discovered their material in 2004 while on tour/record digging in Milan where he picked up a compilation featuring their track “Megamix”. Originally released in the 80s, the track was not rooted in disco, hip hop & DJ history but rather post punk and industrial influences. Music Concrete is what the collective would have perhaps described their approach at the time. “Wild Style on dust” was how Cut’s collaborator Tom Fitzgerald described it on hearing it 20 years later. Finding this record ultimately led to Cut Chemist tracking down the group, bonding over shared aesthetics and getting their blessing for this collection, which includes unreleased tracks, photographs and little-seen flyers and art from the group. The vinyl and CD are released in the UK on 9th June through A Stable Sound.

Freeze - Cut Chemist and DJ Shadow

Cut and Shadow's Brainfreeze mix is classic on many levels. For whatever reason, I never showed any interest in watching this video of the two performing the Brainfreeze mix live. For a good 5-10 years, I would see this VHS (back when people owned such things) everywhere I would go. You'd think I'd eventually breakdown and cop the VHS. It's not like I'm above buying wack ish (not that this is wack by any means). Long story short, I highly recommend you watch this video if you are dumb like me and just refused to buy it for no good reason. I even recommend you watch it again if you were smart enough to watch it back in the day. These two were/are way ahead of their time.

Cassette Culture - Cut Chemist

I'm not sure if this mix was mixed with tables or not. The description only says that 4 tape decks were used. However it was done, expect all sorts of crazy minimalistic, synthesizer based joints you've never heard before, but will like. Highly Recommended.
