The Big Payback: The 45s (Volume 1) - Mixed by DJ Scratch

Everything you'd expect from DJ Scratch mixing classic James Brown tracks. I believe this mix was released to promote the upcoming JB film, Get on Up. There is also a J. Period James Brown mix (that I have not yet listened to) that can be found HERE.

**Update** I have now listened to the J. Period mix and I actually prefer it to the Scratch mix. Both mixes are very good, but the J. Period mix has much more production value. I suppose it comes down to a matter of preference. Listen to both to be safe. No such thing as too much James Brown.

DJ Scratch: "Because they can't see you over the computer. Serato and Traktor and all that, it's not special anymore. Everybody has it. Not everybody has vinyl."

That quote caused me to recall that one of the novelties of deejaying back when I started (late 90's) was vinyl. People didn't necessarily care about how skillfull I was (or wasn't in my case), they mostly cared that I actually owned vinyl in an era dominated by CDs. To them, that's what made the hip hop deejay "cool." Totally forgot about all that. Crazy

Grand Master Flash Tribute - DJ Premier, DJ Ca$h Money, DJ Scratch

Primo's Nautilus routine really has me perplexed. DJ Premier is an enigma as far as I'm concerned. Some of his sets are sloppy at best. Most of us give Primo a pass on these sloppy sets because dude is just a living legend. On the other hand, I'll see a set like the Nautilus set above every once in while and I'll curse myself for ever even thinking Primo's skills are lacking. Oh yeah, Scratch and Ca$h Money ain't bad either.

I just finished watching the volume of Beef that goes into the whole breakup of EPMD and thought this mix would be appropriate for a re-post Friday. Listening to EPMD has never been the same after hearing that story of Eric Sermon robbing Parish Smith in his own home at gun point.
