I posted this way back in the zshare era and thought it deserved a re-post. I listened to this mix yesterday for the first time in a few years and I was surprised I didn't remember it being as good as it is. Certainly worth a re-listen. R.I.P. Raida

A few thoughts: Shame on a blogger for not recognizing the day we lost a true deejay pioneer. This is the highpoint of the whole turntablist movement in my opinion. I lost interest once it became more technical (becoming more technique than soul) than this.

Roc Raida Tribute Documentary

I saw this circulating earlier in the week, but didn't post it because I thought it was the same video that was circulating this time last year. Fortunately, I have this tendency to watch these sort of videos over and over again. While watching it last night I realized that this is a new tribute video featuring interviews with Dj Precision, Dj Boogie Blind, Dj Sean C, Dj Rob Swift, J.Rocc, Mr. Choc, & MF Grimm.

Raida tribute week continues with this classic video. For some reason, Raida's death is really sticking with me. I don't know if it is because he was a deejay, or because he left behind a wife and two kids. But, it is always a tough pill to swallow when people die before they were able to live a full life. Maybe Roc Raida's death resonates with me because the poor guy was probably just trying to stay in-shape and start a new hobby with the whole MMA thing, and boom, one freak accident later he's dead.

Still Smoking - Mixed by Roc Raida

This mix used to get mad burn in my car back in 99/2000. Though Raida is known more for his live performances than his ability to blend a mixtape, he does a superb job of mixing early 90's cuts with many of your favorite breaks from the JB's, Funkadelic, and all the rest. I don't have a tracklist for this mix, but the Fat Beats skits alone make the mix worth a listen.
