CrayonBeats Presents: Issa Throwback
Series of early 80s themed mega-mixes including one by blog favorite, DJ ADA.
Yes, Yes, Y'ALL! And we're back! CrayonBeats Presents: "Issa Throwback" is the 9TH volume in our compilation mix series. What's special about this mixtape, is that it's also the FIRST in our new Magazine x Mixtape combinations (mag.crayonbeats.com, for issue 8). That means that with each of our compilations from here on out, there will be a corresponding, inclusive magazine issue released where you can get to know the artists featured via special interviews. This album/issue is themed after the 1980s (with a little bit of 90s/00s sprinkled here and there)!
We put out an open-call on Instagram for music makers of all kinds to create a brand new track inspired by a song that was released during the year they were born, and the result is what you have here: 14 super dope, unique and talented artists coming together, for 9 songs) to make this "throwback" compilation one of our favorites to date. We hope you feel the same way!

My first ever all 7" mix, recorded June 2013. Not all of them play at 45 rpm so not calling it an "all "45" mix officially, but that's the general genre it falls into. I love 45 mixes and wanted to give it a go. Most of these tunes were found in thrift stores for really cheap, so forgive the quality and just enjoy the trip. There's some interesting things in there. Get ready for a lot of fun and excitement. Now let's start!

All of ADA's mixes are extraordinarily intricate and his latest is no exception. ADA is safely one of my top 5 mixers at the moment and his most recent mix continues his streak of high quality output. Highly Recommended.
Jukebox Journey - Mixed by DJ ADA
Excellent mix of crunchy treats superbly blended together by blog favorite, DJ ADA. Props to Mrs. ADA for traveling 14 hours with a box of 45s to make this mix happen. Highly Recommended.
My wife travelled 14 hours with this box of free 45s from an old jukebox in New Jersey, just to make me smile. It worked, and I made this mix all from records in the box.
WFMU Mix #3: Put the Needle on the Record - Mixed by DJ ADA
Another superb live mix brought to you by DJ ADA. I recommend this volume particularly to those who like their hip hop raw. Strap-up your Timbos, dust-off your old Averex jacket, put a razor blade in your mouth, press play; and get your hip hop on. Enjoy.

Blog favorite DJ ADA brings you some next level ish right here. The video (above) insanely syncs ADA's album with a video mix of UFO conspiracy visuals that would make Oliver Stone jealous. I highly recommend listening to the album at your leisure. Zealous Collector - DJ ADA
I first heard this mix in late 2014 and was impressed enough after my first listen to make a mental note to revisit the mix for the "best of" list at the end of the year. For whatever reason, this mix was negligently omitted from the list due to my lack of memory. Well, better late than never, Highly recommended mix of a diverse collection of funky music. Enjoy.
7 Inch Odyssey Part 1 - Mixed by DJ ADA
He may not be a household name, but I've become a huge fan of DJ ADA. For whatever reason, I really enjoy the soundscape that is created with all of his mixes. This all 45 mix continues a streak of excellent mixes from one of my favorite mixtape deejays.
Full Circle - DJ Ada
The picture encapsulates the vibe of the mix. The mix sounds like one of those classic 4-track mixes from the days before Cool Edit, Pro Tools, and the rest. When I aksed Ada how he made the mix, he answered by explaining "it's a combination of patterns from the sp-606 (all loops sampled from vinyl) +a few records mixed in live over top for the final layer." All I have to say is this gem of an 18 minute mix has given me all sorts of ideas for new mixes. Listen and enjoy. Highly Recommended.
DROPPING GEMS - Mixed by DJ ADA
One of the finer 10:52 of mixing I've heard in quite a while. Highly Recommended. ADA's description of the mix below.
It's a 4 track mix I made in 2006 when I was living with my uncle and spending a lot of time in the garage with my turntables and sampler. This has a lot of classic dope 90s beats which I looped and layered at 90 BPM and added skratching. I was definitely influenced by the J Rocc vs Jaylib mix and other classic 4 track mixes of the 90s. I always wanted to do something like this and this was my first project of this nature. I hope you can dig it.
