J. Rocc's Adventures in Stereo (9/27/15) - Madlib Carnival Edition
Absolutely stellar radio! J. Rocc begins by playing all sorts of buttas you will all begin scouring the net for. The show then goes onto play live sets (recorded at the Outlook Festival in Croatia) from both Pete Rock and Madlib. Side Note: I haven't heard a Pete Rock mix that good since the Future Flavas days.
Madlib's Motown Mix
This mix is from many years ago. I'm not even sure if I ever uploaded this mix to the blog because it was released back in the day when Stones Throw was not allowing blogs to upload their mixes in any format other than iTunes. I'm uncertain if Stones Throw's draconian policy on that issue ever officially changed, but I think they've at least softened up over the years because these podcasts are pretty common place now. Back to the mix. I never gave this mix a close listen when it was originally released because Madlib's deejaying skills are not anywhere near his production skills. What a mistake! I don't know if it's the influence of the whole "Beat" movement and the style of deejaying associated with that subgenre, but I've really come to appreciate Madlib's deejaying style. This mix comes of sounding like a how you'd think a Motown inspired Madlib beat tape would sound like. Absolutely phenomenal! Highly Recommended that you re-listen to this mix if you're already familiar with it. If you're not familiar with the mix, sit back and enjoy.
Madlib Makes a Beat from Scratch
Pretty cool video from Vice Media that has Madlib making a beat from scratch using a drum kit, CDJs, and a keyboard. Though the video and set-up look very "clean" and polished, you can see how Madlib's production process often results in that very grimy sound we all love so much.

Blunted in the Bomb Shelter - Mixed by Madlib

DillaMix
When Dilla first passed I refrained from doing a tribute mix because I felt that it was a little like bringing sand to the beach (though I thoroughly enjoyed many of the tribute mixes that circulated the web). Now that 2 years have passed, and over 2 albums worth of new material has been released (or re-released in some cases), I felt I could bring something new to the Dilla tribute mix collection. Expect the usual BlendingNations signature sound of quick mixing and blends upon blends. Take a moment and remember a talented man who died too early. Enjoy...DillaMix (download)
