Producer Challenge Ep. 2: Juicy the Emissary
Dope beat-making video, but better footage of Juicy the Emissary's home studio. In case you ain't knowin', Juicy the Emissary is the mastermind behind the impeccable Attention K-Mart Choppers (Street Corner). Juicy also recently released Timber! on Street Corner Music.
Jazzsoon's Home Studio
Jazzsoon's beat tapes are some of my favorites. Everything about him screams Hip Hop, as well as New York. Here you get extensive footage of his home studio and vinyl collection.
De la Soul: 3 Feet High & Rising Press Kit
Too many classic tidbits to be pulled from this press kit to be listed. If nothing else, it's worth watching to get glimpses into Prince Paul and Dave's home studios at the time. For those in the De la state of mind, peep De la Slow.
Props to MicroChop for digging this up.
DJ Platurn: Breaking the Ice Mini-Documentary
Breaking the Ice is an extended mix of rare—mostly never before heard—Icelandic tracks that are heavily underscored with psych, funk, soul, disco, and in-the-pocket rhythms, all of which are expertly mixed by renowned DJ and turntablist, DJ Platurn. The music presented has been compiled through a lifetime of collecting, while others have been passed down through Platurn’s familial, musical roots. Alchemist - Secret Sauce (Behind The Beat Video + Alchemist Drum Kit)
Beyond ill promotional video for ALC's Secret Sauce Drum Kit. All sorts of glimpses into Alchemist's home studio, production equipment, etc... Always been a fan of Alchemist's production, but I've really been a fan of his more stripped-down style that his been more prevalent since the release of Russian Roulette.
Rhythm Roulette: Daringer
Daringer and the whole crew(s) of Griselda affiliates have been in constant rotation in my headphones for about a year now (Yes, I was a little late to the party). FYI I'm 99% sure this isn't Daringer's home studio. For pics of Daringer's home studio go HERE.
Rhettmatic Got Beats Video
Promotional video for Rhettmatic's recent release, Rhett Got Beats. Video contains all sorts of good footage of Rhett's home studio and equipment.
Our Synths Weigh a Ton: Inside Stones Throw Studios
Yes, geeking-out on the equipment is the selling point of this video. However, the real news for me was the mention of a NXWorries remix album in the works.
Delroy Edwards Interview & Home Studio
If you've listened to my latest mix, you know it was heavily influenced by Delroy Edwards' music. Here's a relatively rare interview with wonderful camera angles where you can see his home set-up. Side note: I've never heard L.A. described as "sleazy" before, but it's the absolute perfect word to describe Los Angeles (and I don't mean that in an entirely negative way).
In The Lab with Roc Marciano (Rosebudd Edition)
A couple months ago I heard a nasty rumor regarding the artistic direction of Roc Marciano's now recently released album. I won't even dignify the details because it turned out to be very false. Roc delivered again. Go buy that Rosebudd if you haven't done so already. Nahright recently did another installment of In the Lab (Rosebudd Edition) with Roc Marciano.
“But then I’ll just pick up a stack of records, and I don’t really care what’s on them or what they say. I just listen. That’s how you discover stuff. If you keep digging and keep looking for stuff that you’re already familiar with, you’ll always get familiar sounding shit. Like, ‘Oh, this sounds like that last record.’
BeatPete, Wun Two & digitalluc - Vinyl Session - Part # 69 - Beatmaker Special
I didn't know BeatPete and Wun Two ran in the same circles. Should have known given that both are on a very similar vibe. Discovered this Highly Recommended gem from Wun Two yesterday.
Live from the Streets: Ol' Dirty Bastard
Mr. Green is f*cking ill.
'Russel Jones aka Ol' Dirty Bastard was born on November 15th and he passed away on November 13th. Every year, his family and friends wish that more people celebrated these dates. The Live from the Streets crew and ODB's family have teamed up to create a special episode out of old VHS tapes. The episode drops to celebrate the legendary artist and to remind people to always remember this week as both a high and low point of hip hop culture. In the end, we all need to celebrate the legacy of ODB.'In a related note, Stoney mixes coming soon featuring Guru, Rakim, and ODB. What is a Stoney mix? You will soon learn.
Huge thanks to ODB, Momma Cherry, Rza, Ashley, Barson, Menace, Missery, Icelene and of course Sean the White Rapper for making the whole thing happen. RIP to the legendary ODB, he will never be forgotten.
P.S. More ODB tributes are in the works... stay tuned. If you are on the east coast, his family is throwing a one of kind tribute show in Brooklyn on November 18th... buy tickets here: http://bit.ly/2f1KhiS
**Please share this video with your friends, family and everyone who you think would appreciate it. We don't have any record label, media company, tv network or marketing budget so we need people to spread the word.**
