DJ Premier Spins Live on 93.9 WKYS: EZSTREETSHOW (February 2015)
For some reason Primo (or is it Premo/Preemo? Can somebody resolve this dispute with 100% certainty?) brings forward his best efforts on live radio mixes. At least to my personal taste, his radio mixes are always technically superior and seemingly more thoughtful than his live performances, in addition to his recorded mixes. This video is a prime example.

Pretty bitchin' classic rock inspired mix by the one, the only, DJ Premier. Highly Recommended.
New York Reality Check 101 - Mixed by DJ Premier
I just finished listening to this mix for the first time in at least 5 years. Man, I feel so hip hop right now. You all should see me. I've got my hoodie and backpack on and I just came back from the Footlocker with some new Timbos. Only thing I'm missing is the razor blade in my mouth and it's 1996 all over again. Give it another listen if you haven't recently. Damn, just remembered how hyped this mix made me for J-Live's LP back in the day.

Classic mixtape from the days of actual tapes. Amazing what you can find if you just do enough random google searches. Enjoy.
Grand Master Flash Tribute - DJ Premier, DJ Ca$h Money, DJ Scratch
Primo's Nautilus routine really has me perplexed. DJ Premier is an enigma as far as I'm concerned. Some of his sets are sloppy at best. Most of us give Primo a pass on these sloppy sets because dude is just a living legend. On the other hand, I'll see a set like the Nautilus set above every once in while and I'll curse myself for ever even thinking Primo's skills are lacking. Oh yeah, Scratch and Ca$h Money ain't bad either.
Gang Starr on Giles Peterson Show (11/03)
For some reason it really kinda hit me for the first time listening to this playback that there will be no more Gang Starr albums. I just always assumed that Gang Starr would forever have one more album left in them. It's sad how death reminds of how we take so much for granted only to forget again. Listening to Guru being interviewed really cemented the reality that we will never again hear Guru's monotone flow perfectly syncopated over a Premier instrumental. I highly recommend listening for the following reasons:
- Premier mixes an excellent live set of classic "rare grooves." Or, pimp smoke as Premier refers to them.
- Very funny to hear the interview immediately begin with Primo object to Giles Peterson greet the two with "hello boys." Guru's nervous laughter speaks volumes for Premier's clear disdain for being called "boy."
- Premier is a dope deejay, but his mixing style isn't exactly "clean." As a result, his style is much better suited for the live, radio mixing format more so than the recorded mixtape style format.
- Man, I miss Gang Starr
Black Fist Friday Hot 97 Mix - Mixed by DJ Premier
As a tribute to Black History Month, HOT 97′s Mr. Cee has been hosting “Black Fist Fridays” every week in February. This past Friday, DJ Premier was the guest of honor. He delivered a signature set of classic and/or forgotten hip-hop and soul joints; everything from Jungle Brothers ”The Promo” to Jeru the Damaja‘s “The Frustrated Ni**a” to a few Sly Stone joints and even U.T.F.O.‘s “Ya Cold Wanna Be With Me.” Long live the radio mix!!!!

DJ Premier Hears Elmatic Instrumentals
I'm not sure if it's a testament to how well executed the Illmatic to Elmatic concept was, or more a reflection of the lack of quality rap albums recently released, but Elmatic is undeniably my favorite album of the last few years. With that said, I have two observations watching this video. (1) It appears that Primo is actually hearing these beats for the first time and is genuinely impressed. (2) I always thought the story behind the Memory Lane beat was that it was originally a Gang Starr track that Guru passed on. However, the story Premier tells in this video is completely different. Can anybody confirm or refute my previous understanding here? Am I just making ish up in my old age...
DJ Premier Weighs-In on a Variety of Topics
DJ Premier is certainly no stranger to the online interview. With as many Premier interviews that are out on the web I've never seen an interview as insightful as this one. In this interview we are able to hear Premier's perspective on a variety of topics that don't always directly relate to hip hop, but still have everything to do with hip hop and music culture. Watch Premier weigh-in on an array of topics that range from the Secondhand Sureshots documentary and Suite for Ma Dukes, to his thoughts on Van Halen and porn.
Biggie Promo Mix - Mixed by DJ Premier
With the accessibility of seemingly everything on the web, I hesitate to call anything "rare." With that said, I certainly had no idea that this mix existed. I must say that Primo gave Biggie the special treatment on this one. You'll hear a much more beatjunkie style mix coming from DJ Premier. Side 2 of this mix is held down by DJ Clue, but the next DJ Clue mix I post will be the first.
