Live, high quality DJ sets on video are a rarity to find these days. I'm not interested in a 20 second clip; nor am I interested in a DJ live streaming for 3 hours. A nice 5-30 minute video of a DJ putting their all into a mix is what I'm after. Here you go. Enjoy.

If anyone knew anything about my DJ career and The Beat Junkies, you would know that we used to dominate the airwaves on the Mixshows both on Power 106FM & 92.3 The Beat, the 2 Top Radio Stations in Los Angeles during the late 90's. Babu & myself would be the resident DJ's for the Soul Assassins Radio Show w/ B-Real & Eric Bobo of Cypress Hill (Melo-D was double duty with us & with Julio G) on Friday Nights. Melo-D was the main mixer for the 7'OClock Menu Mix with Julio G. While across town, up the dial, Mr. Choc & J.Rocc were at Power 106FM as part of the Fantastik 4our (w/ C-Minus & Truly Odd) with Friday Night Flavas.
Speaking of Julio G....what can I say about him. He's a big brother/mentor to us, a West Coast legend, and was the key component in giving most of the Junkies a career in Terrestrial Radio. His history & credentials are very deep: An OG 1580AM KDAY Mixmaster (Julio's a bad MF'er on the turntables & can still cut it up!), On-Air Personality on 92.3 The Beat, Co-Producer with OG 1580AM KDAY Mixmaster Dj Tony G for Mellow Man Ace's "Mentriosa" & Dj Pooh's "Woop Woop" feat Kam, Co-host of "Ruthless Radio Show" with the late great Eazy-E, the host of Westside Radio, the host/voice of "Los Santos Radio" on Grand Theft Auto V, & former Tour DJ for Cypress Hill. Like I said, what can I say about Julio....he helped put LA & the West Coast on the map!
Fast forward to the mid 2000's. Both Julio G & the Junkies already left the radio airwaves because the landscape for LA radio was changing & it was time for all of us to make bigger moves. Then around 2004, there was a buzz going around that a new radio station was about to appear on the scene with the call letters "KDAY", & people were excited. In 2005, 93.5FM KDAY was born on the FM dial, people were excited. The only thing though, it's not the same as the KDAY we grew up in the 80's & it was mostly geared towards the nostalgia factor but with a updated vibes. It wasn't the same & for a lot of us that truly grew up with KDAY, you had to have someone that came from that era to really understand and at the same time, have their ears to the street. Thus, it was only right to have Julio G to be brought on board. It was a blessing that he brought Melo & myself with him to help KDAY be authentic. Basically, this was my last radio gig I ever before leaving the terrestrial radio airwaves for good. I was on 93.5FM - KDAY during the 2005 to early 2006. It wasn't the original 1580AM KDAY, but they were trying to mold the vibe to it. Julio was the On-Air personality; my fellow Beat Junkie, Melo-D was his main mixshow Dj from every Mon to Fri at 7pm. I would do Thursday nights at 7pm.
Here are a couple of my On-Air mixes that I would do live every Thursday nights, still using vinyl (the year before Serato came out), the Rane TTM-56, & the Pioneer 500EFX effect box. This is probably the last glimpse of dope mixing on LA radio before Radio fell off for good! Here's a mix I did a few years ago but really never got the official push until now. If people have been following me on my social media, people would know that I recently have a passion for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Now am I good at it? Hell no...but it definitely helped change my life; I lost a lot of weight & have been the healthiest I have ever been. Also the philosophy of Jiu Jitsu has even helped me with the discipline & learning aspect towards everything I do in life.
Anyways, a good friend of mine, Bear Quitugua, a Black Belt in Jiu Jitsu and owner of a well respected Jiu Jitsu Kimono Gi company called Shoyoroll, asked me to do a mixtape for him. Bear is a big Reggae music head so I did my best to cater to his taste. I made sure to put in classic Roots, Lover's Rock, & Riddims into the mix. So yeah, I made a Reggae mix, Beat Junkie Style! I hope you guys enjoy some of the classic massive chunes....Seen! Respect!!

Being that Dilla Month is almost over, I figured I post one more in honor of my brother, the late great J Dilla!
I did this mix LIVE on 2/7/2020 in my home studio on my IG Story on a whim. I didn't think of recording the mix, I just did it on the fly without no plan & no practice. I just did whatever I was feeling & didn't care if I made a mistake. I just kept on till I stopped. Only people who got to witness the mix were the ones that watched my IG Story Live (it was only up for 24 hrs). Realizing that I only got 24 hrs before it got erased, I came up w/ the idea to record the mix from my IG via IPhone onto Protools; it took 1 hr & 26 min to dump onto Protools (the low quality because of IPhone mic).
Thank you to everyone who was able to watch me mixed this live. Now the rest of you can listen to this mix. I hope you enjoy this mix & the live record settings. Thank you for listening.

Back in 2005, I used to do a Mixtape or should i say Mix CD series called "Soundbytes". It was basically on some "whatever I was feeling at the moment" steeze; it could've been Breaks, it could've been Hip Hop, or even House. This 2nd installment was made by accident. This mix was originally made for my girlfriend at that time as a Valentine's Day gift. She liked it so much that she suggested that I should put it out publicly, so I made a slightly different version & gave some promo copies out at NIGHTLIFE (a monthly club that the Beat Junkies used to do at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood during the years of 2002-2005). BTW, this was Pre-Serato, all Vinyl (not like it really matters anymore...LOL)
Even though I'm not a fan of Valentine's Day anymore, I figured I shared this old mix for all you lovers (& music lovers) out there to chill out to or to create some ambience to set a mood with that special someone. This is definitely for the ladies. Enjoy!
